About 40 days ago I dropped my pixel 8 pro smartphone down two flights of an outdoor metal staircase and shattered the screen. I had the screen repaired a week ago for $310 USD by repair company ubreakifix.

Yesterday in a mall in Southeast Asia eating lunch at Steak Shack the pixel 8 phone dropped out of my pocket and landed in the concrete floor. I have no case for this phone. The phone survived the drop, but not a good omen.

The mall is huge and has a technology corridor in the mall. I discovered that pixel phones are not sold in this region. With dozens of cell phone accessories vendors, only one had a pixel case, which I purchased.

Next to this case vendor was a tempered screen protector vendor. This vender has a “smart” tempered glass protection cutting machine. The technician enters into the machine’s keypad the model smartphone the customer has, and out pops the custom cut tempered screen glass protector.

The technician then cleans the smartphone OEM glass and places the protector on the glass. Next the technician places the smartphone in different machine for two minutes, where a screen protector harden process takes place.

Never saw anything like this service offered in the U.S. the cost was under $14 US. I am carrying five smartphones, later today I am bringing the other smartphones in for this protection service. Cheap insurance after the lesson learned of the cost of glass replacement on a smartphone.

Honestly don't see why some trust using phones without a decent case. No doubt it somewhat covers the nice exterior that some just have to oooh and ahhh over, but IMBHO phones these days are much too thin, delicate, lightweight and slippery to trust not using a quality case. For yrs I haven't used a new phone unless I had the case first. Will honestly say that if Casio would come out with another version of their Commando line that would come close to matching the newer Samsung S series phones in performance I wouldn't hesitate to get another one.

Tempered glass screen protectors are sold all over the internet from every retailer on planet earth.

Takes literally minutes to install yourself very simple. (nothing wrong with someone doing it for you if you wish)
Cost about $10 for 2, 3 and sometimes 4 packs as a low and a bit more depending on marketing of some more well known brands.

I agree cheap insurance. Had cell phones for over 2 decades now. Wife and I never broke a screen or even damaged one. However we have cracked a few screen protectors which is a good thing knowing it possibly protected the screen from cracking or scratching.

Simple to take off and put a new one on.
Don’t ever ask to borrow our phone !! 🤣

(Just got back from Southeast Asia / 30 hour trek about 24 hours of flight time. Return trip was not fun using Delta but that is another thread)
