Nearly 40mpg on a 50 weight.

You get banned when you go against the agenda. When I copy and past pictures from the owners manual, the factory service manual, or TSB's, that show that the thicker oil is acceptable and an option, I get dealt bans from the ignorant moderators too. You can't help all the sheep, especially the dumb ones that think that they are smart. New members should not ask the question if they're not going to like the answer. So many are just bots looking out to see what side you're on. And, some members are worse than the bots. Too many 'in crowd' cliques in forums that jump all over when someone is challenged, even when the 'in crowd' is pathetically clueless and wrong, or have no real world experience. I purposely bring it out in many every now and then. The gang police is watching you.

5w50... ~5 hths... now I'll have to step up to even thicker options. I thought I was a rebel using 5w40 in place of 0w20 or 5w20.

Another proud 20w50 user .
If coolant temps get to 104c on 47c day ,you can imagine the oil temperature 🤒.
Btw the coolant temps are pegged to 90c in winter no matter how hard I drive.

Most people don't understand how oil works. You will be crucified on any of the car subreddits if you suggest something as simple as using 5w40 HDEO instead of 15w40 HDEO, even though they're exactly the same above freezing temperatures.

Nobody bats an eye at pouring Lucas oil stabilizer in a worn engine despite the fact it's kv100 is something like 100cst but suggesting using a thicker oil instead will start WWIII.

I'm experimenting with 10w-40 in my 5w-20 and 5w-30/10w-30 spec vehicles. so far, so good and I like it. We'll see how it goes in our mild Winter's.
10w40 will be fine in SC winters. I used it for years while living in the Charlotte, NC area. I am now in southwestern KY where it gets much colder but I'm still using 10w40.
