Navistar 7.3 at 300k

I bought a 1989 Ford F250 with the Navistar 7.3 Diesel. The truck has almost 300k but runs well. I'm thinking of an Auto R/X rinse and then a steady diet of Delo 400 15-40. Is this idea sound? I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Doubt that auto-rx is necessary.

When I dropped the pan on my 83 300D at 200K, I thought Id see some sort of junk in the bottom. However, it was as clean as could be, and the car had never seen syn before even! Only Pennzoil Long life or Mobil delvac 1300S.

Delo is a great oil, but Ive gotten reduced fuel economy using it... I like delvac 1300S, but dont get me wrong, delo is great stuff. Despite the high miles, Id consider going to synthetic... I had no issues taking my 83 to syn at 200k miles.

I have a 91' Navistar 7.3 and have also considered an Auto Rx treatment. I would be interested to know how it would help this type of engine, if at all.

Technically speaking if you are calling your FORD PSD 7.3L a Navistar then it would be the T444E.

59Vetterman has done the auto RX treatment on his F250 with good results. It would not hurt, but it takes alot due to large quantity of oil they use.

The trucks they are talking about are pre-PSD. However the 7.3 lived as a naturally aspirated, indirect injection diesel before the PSD and briefly in 93 & 94 had a turbo. The PSD is a completely different animal.

Our old F350 with the 6.9 (predicessor to the 7.3) had about 200K and when the pan was dropped it was clean as a whistle. Leaked like a sieve though.

BTW - International Navistar built the light duty diesels for Ford trucks: 6.9L, 7.3L, 7.3L turbo, 7.3L PSD and the current 6.0L PSD

I switch between Delo and Delvac and find both to be fantastic oils, recently Mobil in India stopped selling the Delvac Super and now they only sell the Delvac MX and this has made me switch to Delo 400 exclusively and I have seen no ill effects at all, no drop in mileage as well, rather the engines run a bit quieter as compared to Delvac Super but that is nit picking.

I'm not sure but I think its still the DT466 with an E at the end for electronic injection. Seems like I've seen a few IH trucks with DT466E on the side.

crashz is correct. This is a non-turbocharged Navistar engine, not a PSD. It has always been run on 15-40 Rotella, so perhaps the AR/X rinse is unnecessary. May go to synthetic for winter use. I'll stay with the Delo 400 for now. Thanks to all who responded.

Speaking of synthetics, Delo also makes a truly good synthetic along with Mobil Delvac-I.

Do you happen to know if the Delo Synthetic has moly? Is the adpack as good as the dino 400? I can't find much info about this oil. I do know that it is a GIII. I have tried the search feature here at BITOG, but with little success.
