A buddy of mine has an early 90's Ford pick-up with a 100,000 mile 302 in it. He got it for cheap and had to spray the oil pump pick up screen with carb cleaner through the drain hole to get the thing to have desent oil pressure. The motor is very nasty inside due to the fact that the oil must have never been changed before he got the truck.

The truck runs great and uses no oil to speak of. He has been running Rotella T 15W40 and changing it every 2000 miles to try and easily clean some of the gick from the engine. He has even pulled the valve covers and cleaned all the mess out from under them and dropped the oil pan as far as he could and spooned out a tub of junk.

The motor seems to be strong. Would AutoRX help this motor?

ZANG! 100k, little oil pressure, and still runs strong? I'm impressed.

I hope he got a good deal on it. My buddy had a 5.0L GT that seized up on the freeway-- luckily got the clutch in before doing donuts in the fastlane. *shrug*

But this truck seems to have a hamster in the hood that won't die.

ferb!

John is on the second dose of ARX and it seems to be working as advertized. The filter was full of yucky nasty pudding like stuff and the oil itself had clumps of floaties in it. So far he likes the stuff just fine. And I'll post what happens with the second dose. He wasn't able to say if the thing ran any better or not because it ran good already. It could get better as the cleaning goes if it does indeed clean the ring pack up.

Update:

John has finished his rinse cycle and is impressed with the ARX. No more plulling the drain plug to shoot carb cleaner at the oil pick up screen. He said the oil came out looking pretty good and he went back to using his favorite oil.

KW,

Thanks for that. The 302 might be an "old fashioned" pushrod motor, but treat 'em right and they'll last for a long, long time.

Try 426,000 miles on my "old-fashioned" 302 in my '88 F150. Never had the valve covers off of it. Just got finished with a second dose of ARX and rinse and it's running as good as I can ever remember. Ol' White Lightning will still peg the speedo.
