i know it's made by Valvoline, but i have not seen UOA's on it and was wondering what the guru's thought about it? i have used it twice in my wife's '01 tahoe w/ 5.3l v-8, 146k + miles. it is usually priced around $5.00 per quart but i have bought it on sale for $3.12. i change the oil in this tahoe between 5-6k since i have switch to synthetics. it uses a quart or so @ 3k, seems less when running the NAPA.

I'm certainly not a 'guru' but I think it's a very good oil for 6 or 7K (or whenever your OLM trips). It's supposed to be similar to Synpower, possibly with a slightly weaker additive package. If I were adding a qt. at 3K I'd change it right when it needed a second makeup quart.

Your rig sounds like a good candidate for an HM oil, it may slow down the consumption somewhat. OTOH, like pbm said, add the one quart at 3k and then around 6k when you need to add another quart just go ahead and do the oil change.

Napa syn is good oil, I've used it before when it was on sale.

alot of ppl on here incorrectly say synpwr has a "weak" add pack, and napa is weaker than synpwr, i run napa syn 10w30 in my gm made 4.3l v6 mercruiser and it seems to work very well, and a boat isnt necissarily "easy" on oil, runs at higher rpms alot compared to a car....i say 6k oci w ease

i have napa 5-20 synthetic in focus and after 4400k it still runs great and oil looks fairly clean...3.29 a qt last sept
