Never thought about it, was just there today. I have to go pick up a part either tomorrow or Saturday. I will do my best to try and remember to find something out.

well I took The plunge and ordered the kit online the local NAPA did not carry it they had to order it from another store well I got the call today it was in and went to pick it up ....but not for 14 bucks! That's right all it included was the pastiche bottle according to the counter person... So I Decloned and told them I'd have to hold off...the bottle wasn't even postage paid and he said it had directions in their on ewho to contact for pricing....

A few days ago I searched the internet and found several listings on Amazon for WIX analysis oil kit #24078 for $16.25 each...shipping free over $25..so i ordered two. They include the containers, labels, etc and analysis report. Used Paypal and they came today.

Local NAPA was over $19 plus tax.

tc1446, Did the Wix Kit state if you had to pay any additional for the analysis? Or have to pay for return shipping of the report? Here is what I could find with some research between the Napa, Amazon and Wix websites.

Wix Site Description:
24077 - Request Form & Bottles
24078 - Request Form, Bottles & Hose
24290 - Request Form, Hose & Pump

Napa Online
FIL 4077 http://test.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?R=FIL4077_0331367120
FIL 4078 http://test.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?R=FIL4078_0331367149
FIL 4290 http://test.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?R=FIL4290_0331367768

Amazon
WIX 24078 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014BEMVW/
WIX 24077 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CSEUQ0/
WIX 24290 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014BK15I/

I got 24077 at my local NAPA store, and it mentions NOTHING about including payment for analysis.....so my theory is it must be "figured in" the cost of the kit...I believe I paid $16 for the black bottle, and then the small, inner clear 3-4 oz. sample bottle.

Interesting though cause this kit doesn't have the gauze material that Blackstone uses in theirs

Perhaps WIX has more confidence in leakage? :p I may still "rig something" with some cotton balls and small zip lock, just for safe measures, and presentation if the USPS asks to see whats inside :p

BUT, I'm stumped on this long form they make you fill out....it's asking or a Customer No. and Unit No......no idea if to just leave it blank or....if that's the ID ill be using to use their webtrieve.alstribology.com site

I have used the service. They do a fine job, and the report is nice. Those extra fields just populate the report, so leaving them blank is fine if they do not apply.

I did not get an ID to log in, they emailed and snail mailed the report to me directly.

In the waiting before you gents posted your experiences I contacted ALS Tribology at this website.

http://webtrieve.alstribology.com/contact.asp

I selected from "subject" drop-down box the option for New User. A rep from ALS Tribology contact me via email and stated that once a kit has been processed by them they can created a UserID that is linked to that account. What I am still trying to determine is how they link future kits to your account for ongoing oil analysis..waiting for an answer from them on that?

Also can anyone post a screenprint or pdf of the report they got back? How does it compare to Blackstone? Same categories or less categories?

It goes by your name and a unit ID you create yourself. On the paper you fill out it asks for a unit ID. You could put "John1of1_car#3" as a unit ID. Then the next time you get a UOA, just put the same unit ID name on the paper.

Okay I see what you mean with the Unit ID. I take it you have used it Loobed so how does it compare to Blackstone? Have you continued with it?

I have only done one UOA from NAPA. I will be doing another one in May or June. I like that they give TBN without charging extra. They do not give an insoluble count like Blackstone, but I don't know what that is good for. I use to get my UOA from here: http://www.analystsinc.com/pages/home/ , because they were local, but they moved.

The fact they include a TBN without charging extra is very nice. My understanding of insoluble speaks more to a failing oil filter being pushed to far. If the oil filter is capturing insoluble material than the reading on the report will be trace vs. one going too far on change interval.

I can get the Wix Kits from my local Napa for $13 which is more than half of Blackstone, so I think I am going to switch over.
