I'm going to be running PP for 7500 OCI. In a Ford 4.0L. And was wondering which filter would be the best for this, either the napa gold or the motorcraft?????

Motorcraft would be my first choice as they are cheap and easy to find. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to use Napa Gold. In fact, for the next change on my mustang, I'll be using a Napa Gold over the Motorcraft as I just bought a year's worth of gold's for all our cars/lawn equipment from site sponsor Fleet Filter.

Will the Motorcraft filter come with a silicone ADBV, or a standard nitrile one? This is the first difference between the two that comes to mind.

The Gold will have a silicone one, which should be a bonus for the long run.

How long will it take to get to 7500 miles?

Its the Fl820s which is the silicone i believe???? As for the time to reach 7500 miles, i'll say 4-7 months....I've always used the motorcraft filters, but was thinking about longer OCI's

Bypass valve on the Wix/Napa Gold is at the base end (threaded end).
Motorcraft FL820S crosses to a Wix 51372
I think you add a 1 in front for the Napa Gold number.

The Motorcraft or Wix/Napa Gold are both great filters......you can feel confident with either one.

Motorcraft for the price and assurance of 100% OEM spec's. Not that I necessarily adhere to OEM spec's ..but for the price Wally's charges for it, I can make an exception

Wix/NG is never a bad choice.

Motorcraft gets my vote, but would choose the napa if thats all i could get

I just put a fl820s on the girlfriends 4.0l '05 explorer and plan on doing a couple oci's with it. she does 99% severe service (short trips) so I will drain the oil, prob dump out the filter and reinstall for 2-3 oci's through out the course of the year.

I use FL820S for 10,000+ miles on my Ford 4.6, with great UOA results. For 3.38, I don't think you can beat it from a performance/cost/value standpoint.

I happen to use WIX (which would be Napa Gold) on my two Subaru, and it does great for at least 15,000 miles, based upon UOA's and visual inspection after cutting them open.

It's just that this is a Ford and MC is an OEM replacement and it's dirt cheap.
And, unless they change suppliers or construction methods, they seem to be pretty high quality.

If I can buy a Motorcraft filter to fit the application then I normally run one. FL-820S on my dad's F150 that I change for him. FL-400S on my Sears Garden Tractor and 92 Toyota Camry. If they made one to fit PL14477 size then I would run it on the 06 Highlander. Since they don't I stocked up on Blue PureOnes. After those are gone I will probably switch to Wix.

Both filters are excellent. The performance to cost ratio leans toward the wallyworld sourced Motorcraft over the Napa.

But, with the current gas prices, I'm more likely to walk down to the local NAPA vs driving 15-minutes to get the Motorcraft.

If you don't mind buying in bulk, then an online store for a box of Napa/Wix is an excellent choice. I'm trying to keep my inventory as low as possible.

Use the brand that is convenient to purchase.
