I used a Napa Gold filter recently on my Tacoma 4.0 V6 along with Castrol Edge Gold Extended Performance. I don't fully trust any oil to remain clean for a full 15,000 miles, so do you students of oil and filtration think the Napa filter would be safe for 10,000 miles?

Yea Id run them for 10k but that would be max for me on one. Theyre pretty good filters. Theres a ton of threads on Napa Golds/Wix/Carquest Blues on here. Look some cut filters up and pay attention to mileages on them.

If the engine is clean (no sludge, etc), it's probably up for 10K miles.

Cut one open after use and look for the level of collected crud to get an idea how much crud the engine produces.

I'd be more concerned about your oil in there for 10k miles. a used oil analysis would tell you enough info to tell if both will last 10k though. Maybe sample at 6-7 thousand. Just my two cents though

both my vehicles are 5k kilometres and under. But my car is extreme severe service and my truck is to but also a modded powerstroke so very picky about all aspects of oil. I think your exact truck should have some used oil analysis floating around for comparison.

Good discussion, gentlemen. I would like to cut the filter when it comes off, but I'm new to the level of oil study that most of you exhibit here. Is a device made just for cutting a filter? Expensive?

My Tacoma 4.0 V6 has 41,000 miles on it now, so hopefully I don't have much gunk/sludge built up yet.

Yes, the Napa Gold will be fine for 10k

If you're still not convinced, there's always Napa Platinum. Tomorrow is the last day they're on sale for $8.99

An engine thats been fed synthetics of fully converted and cleaned from dino- no problem.

An old neglected dino burner - wouldn't do 10K with any filter.

I run Napa golds at 3500-5000 RPM for 25-35 hours at a time in my 700 HP all aluminum 8.3L V10.

Never had one remotely close to failed when I cut them open.

Your car engine presents little challenge to it.

If you want the 'best' top-tier filter....just go to your local WalMart....and purchase a FRAM ULTRA.....guaranteed for up to 15,000 miles. They usually sell for under $9.

I'm under the impression that NAPA Gold filters are designed for OEM service intervals; if your factory OCI is 15k, the NAPA Gold should be good for 15k.

Are you referring to the XP/Platinum line? The Gold series has pretty good efficiency depending on the filter.

OP - I would use a WIX/NAPA Gold for 10K with no issues.
