Much less than that will easliy do it.Unless it's 4+" long, that's not in the tire case.

It's gonna be like digging out a splinter, you're going to have to go around it and cut up some rubber.I have tired needle nose pliers, flat blade screwdrivers with no luck.
One of the Walmart tire guys mentioned to me one day about "you don't have the Walmart Plus" but I had no idea what he was talking about. He said the employees get it as a benefit for free. Mighty good of them I would think. No beef with the shop from my end. Following industry best practices, that tire is non repairable. Thank a lawyer.
That being said, when I was broke I have plugged dozens of tires just like the one pictured without any failures.
You can dig it out and plug it.
If you have Walmart plus , if you buy tires from Walmart they include the road hazard warranty for free. They replaced a tire with 8000 miles on it for free a few months ago. It had a puncture just like the pictured tire in this thread. It was outside of the repairable area.
I’ll always have Walmart plus(convenience) going forward and will try to buy my tires from Walmart for the free road hazard warranty.
Here are the benefits of a WalMart Plus membership. It costs $12.95/mo. or $98/year.One of the Walmart tire guys mentioned to me one day about "you don't have the Walmart Plus" but I had no idea what he was talking about. What is that? Warranty for everything? What does it cost? I bet the majority of our spending these days goes thru Walmart more than any other stores. We do buy from online places too when we need to.
Thanks, sounds good even with my Road Hazard I already have on tires for both cars. Walmart Tire & Auto (even with their struggle to keep good mechanics) is always my closest and best option for our tire needs. My main challenge it to get to them at either first sun light or right after their lunch breaks to avoid a crowd. Here are the benefits of a WalMart Plus membership. It costs $12.95/mo. or $98/year.
I call BS on this. I have plugged many holes from nails to 1/4 inch bolts going into the tire. I have also plugged holes very close to the side wall. I have never lost a tire doing it this way. Never had problems with the plugs leaking either.
It's not a "I want to sell you a new tire(s)". It's a liability thing. Not every thing is a conspiracy theory. Similar threads have been posted many, many times on here when there is a nail close to the edge of the tire (as pictured) from someone doesn't want to buy a new one. There is no way on Earth I'm doing 75 - 80 mph hours (legal speeds in "The West" on the Interstates) in 100 degree ambient temperature (pavement is much more than that) with plug that close to the edge.
What state is this?

Quoting the 2021 VSP Inspection Manual
8. Any tire has a cut or puncture into the fabric. This does not include a plug or patch that may be used as a manner of repair.
NOTE: Plugs or patches shall be in the tread area only. Plugs or patches are not permitted in the sidewall of the tire.
9. Any tire is worn so that the fabric or steel cord is visible.
10. Any tire has knots or bulges in its sidewalls or if there is evidence of a broken belt under the tread, or if the tread is separating from the fabric. Any cracks in the sidewall where separation in the rubber is detected or the fabric is exposed, not to include fine hairline cracks.
Wow, and people complain about the P.R NY
Personally, I'd have it dismounted and a proper plug/patch repair done (if the tires not too old/worn to waste)
I would agree RMA best practices would not repair that tire
Do you want to waste another $20 inspection fee just to be failed again, that's up to you vs the cost of a replacement tire
It's not worth dying over but really if i did mange to get it out and plug it. If the plug failed i would not think the tire is going to go flat, blow out instantly causing a accident.
Plug patches to me are the very best repair they offer these days for the dreaded nails we all seem to keep finding all over around here. What state is this?

You guys gotta get to the ghetto. They will patch a sidewall cut, even if the tire goes on the front of the car. ANYTHING to make a few bucks. Nobody oversees them, no inspectors come in. I've seen them do it,,,and I just shake my head. THAT would not be going on my car for sure. But some people just don't have the $$$$ to buy a used tire, so they take their chances on a sidewall patch. That's life in the ghetto.
