My son’s 2002 WRX

Your son definitely turned this car around into a nice looking vehicle.

He doesn’t really get harassed too often because he doesn’t drive like most 22 year olds. He’s never even had a speeding ticket.

It is probably because he worked hard and paid a lot of money to get this car where it is. And he know how much more it will cost if he trashes it.

My son picked up a new daily driver to match his WRX, he got a great deal on this slightly modified 98 Forester

Wow, I am not brave enough to buy something like that! But I guess your son has built up some knowledge and experience so he knows what he's looking at, and the time to work on it.
IMO I think these are peak subaru styling/utility, but I'm an old guy!

He is aware that the older Fozzies aren’t always the most reliable but he has the skills to do a lot of the work himself and parts are still easy to find and not too expensive for the most part 😎

My son gave me some very sad news today. He has been looking over his WRX very closely over the last few months as he took off the purple wrap and was planning on painting it later this year after doing some more bodywork. Upon further inspection he found a lot of rust in many areas such as the floor, rocker panels, strut towers and even the gas tank and fuel lines are in bad shape. Even though he originally planned on keeping this car forever he realizes that it would just cost a ridiculous amount of money to keep it going 😥

His new plan is looking for a decent C5 Corvette or maybe even a mid 70s Trans Am! Both of those might cost him a lot of money but in the end would be worth a lot more.

Six years ago at the age of 16 my son bought his first car, a 2002 WRX, for $6000 Canadian. It needed a lot of work! In fact he almost wanted to immediately sell it when he found out that the subframe was so badly rusted that it would not pass the safety inspection 😥 He spent $4000 getting that sorted out and got to work making other body repairs and cosmetic modifications. Fast forward to today and the car is completely transformed! He’s got nice wheels on it, coil overs, a nice looking body kit and just yesterday he got it back from having it wrapped. The results are amazing! 🤩 The car has just under 400,000 km on it now and is still on the original engine, turbo and transmission! No head gasket issues either! It has a mild stage one tune in it but he doesn’t beat on the car too hard as he’s trying to see how long he can get out of the original engine. Once that is cooked he has plans for an STI engine. He’s already got the bigger turbo ready to go when that happens. I’m so proud of him, he’s done a lot of the bodywork and repairs/maintenance himself. He runs Castrol 5w40 in it, avoiding the typical Subaru trend of using Brotella 🤪View attachment 234180View attachment 234181View attachment 234182
Love the color.

The older WRX is one of my favorite looking cars.
