Okay here`s my question/concern, I have a 2001 Lexus RX 300 and use GC or PP. I notice when I use the GC,the motor uses around a 1/2 quart of oil between 3-4k oc`s. When I use the PP 5w30,it uses no oil between changes what so ever. I`m thinking since the GC is on the high 30w end of the oil spectrum, this may be why this happens. most Asian motor`s are more content on the lighter oil. What is your input re: this? I have 97,000 miles on the odo.and Change oil in lower intervals, due to being a notorious sludge monster. (even with synthetic) some will not agree with my method and say I can safely go 5k on changes. I am willing to give that a try,but this is concerning me rite now.

Although I trust your judgement, I am cautious to draw any conclusions about reports of consumption in small amounts. Too much room for error. For me, GC burned the least of any oil. 11k ocis in my V6 Audi netted about 1.5q use. Some guys see that in
To get a good level test, I fill the engine so it's below the full mark, stone-cold and level. GC is probally awesome for your application, I'd use it in summer and PP in winter. If in doubt about consumption, toss in a bottle of Auto-Rx with the PP and see how it goes from there.

Yeah, I certainly like the GC,car runs very well on it. And nice and quiet as well. Another interesting thing is,yesterday (it is very cold here rite now high 20`s) when I went to add some oil,the GC was more pourable than the PP.Cold pour point must be lower I guess.

When I switched from M1 to Valv synpower on my 05 Sienna with the 3.3L, oil consumption went from zero to about a quart in the first 2000 miles. Everyone on bitog said that was normal when switching and to see if it didn't stop after staying with the Valv syn. I'm on my 3rd OC with syn and yep--consumption is zero after that first 2000 miles. Sort of freaky to me, but it is true. So I guess switching brands can affect consumption. Every engine reacts differently to whatever you put in it. You just have to find what works for your application. My 3.3 seems to like synpower. I am only basing that on the fact that it is noticeably quieter with the synpower. MPG is the same.
