My new car never needs an oil change!

We have one in our fleet (2011 w/17,000 miles) and it works well in the mountains (valleys 2000s, upper passes 3,300, peaks 3-6000).

As far as range, it seems to be fairly normal. We are definitely getting about 70-80 and change out of the Leaf. Mountains bother it less than my gasoline vehicles (which the Ford 3.7 V6 can easily get 11s if bumming around town. Idling combined with starting on a hill hurts gas more than cruising up an incline in an EV. Still, the Leaf is better around town compared to the highway. Now, other EVs like GEMs take it on the chin harder than the Leaf but the Leaf seems to be better recouping energy with the downhill "braking".

I am somewhat in the same boat as the OP.

My 2013 TDI Cheatwagon has become a 2014 Volt - due to be delivered in 2 weeks (in prep at Carvana).

My smaller battery and shorter commute has me thinking that as a strictly commuter car, the 115V 8amp option will do me fine for overnite charging. I am struggling justifying the expense of a level 2 charger (even though it has been shown to charge a Volt using 7% less power vs 115V).

I still have 3 Land Cruisers and a Subaru that use oil though, so no worries on my ~100 quart stash going stale!

Also wonder how badly running the a/c, stuck in stop/go traffic effects range.

FWIW, Toyota is now selling reman batteries for the 2nd gen Prius - it's 50% less than a new one($2500-3500 for a new Panasonic unit). I'm not sure if Nissan and NEC have an system setup in place.

I carpooled with someone in a Leaf, she had 70 miles of range in stop and go.

Is the car significantly quieter than a typical midsize car above city speeds?
How is the ride quality and seat comfort?
Does it have a good stereo?

I briefly considered something like this as my short-distance work commuter before I got my Mini. Hope your Leaf works out well for you.

I'm in a situation where I could use one of these. Have an outdoor plug on my garage. Work is 11 miles one way. If I do any running around after work, it's never more than 10 or 15 miles extra.

Plus my roof is east/west so I have one part of it facing due south over a lake. Could even get some solar put up!

Of course I would be gone while getting solar but that's besides the point!

Bought my wife an electric bicycle, what a blast. I can see an electric car or truck at some point.
