My MPG on 0w20

Nice photos.

I tip $10 cash for short ride, $20 for a longer ride. 💰
That's a good tip. Man both the candidates were talking about this no tax on tips thing, I can't wait when finally they make it into a law. I will get to keep more money

This little guy got me a tip the other day.

You will never, ever be able to tease the oil grade difference out of everyday driving. It is deep in the noise. Way too many equally or more significant variables that drown out the relatively small change due to oil. Gasoline itself varies in energy density more than a couple of grade changes. Add in the seasonal gasoline formulation changes and you're out of the ballpark completely.

Didn't we have this discussion before?
This, 100%

Not bad. Got 31.7 mpg on a roadtrip with my 21’ odyssey. 85-90mph on the straights lmao. 75mph climbing Siskiyou summit out of Ashland than coasting 14 miles down to the California food patrol station

At 85 mph the Troopers just watched your Odyssey fly by. A Dodge Charger would be toast. Minivans save on gas and speeding tickets

Ok folks, same Shell station, same pump. As I was expecting, things improved with average of two fill ups. Next update, in 15,000 miles.

For the test to be valid, the driver can't know the type of oil in the car. The biggest MPG factor by far is how the driver operates the car. A subconscious bias in gas pedal operation will affect the outcome. Operating the heater is used has a huge effect on how our Prius chooses to turn on and off the engine while the engine is warming up.

Nah, I haven't changed a thing in my driving habits. 200,000 miles, and counting, on factory brakes should tell you the kind of driver I am. I haven't slammed my brakes in months or years

What I'm really wondering about is that when you get this miniscule effect on gas mileage by going up in viscosity one centistoke, how minuscule of extra protection you would get by going up one centistoke. I reckon it is pretty miniscule unless you go up from 0w16 to 5w50. No wonder 0w16 got me to 200,000 miles without any issues whatsoever.

Yeah, but 5w-30 woulda got you to 400k. <logical fallacy/>

A sample of May 2025 to May 2026 will give us a better idea. That sample will include the crappy winter gas and cold weather. If the overall average is 34-36 mpg then that would be acceptable. I'll keep recording my gas purchases, let's see.

First, have you always used shell gas. Second, in my experience, you went more than twice the miles on the second fill. In my experience, the longer you run between fill ups, the better average MPG you will see.

Yes, Shell for years.

Yes, Shell for years.
An article I linked once showed that even at the same gas station the BTU content of the fuel varied about 4% irrespective of any blend changes. This is why any fuel economy testing is always performed with standardized test fuel and the results are compensated for the specific energy content.
