Yeah, my job can be rough, that is for sure! (Retail, blah!)

Crazy hours, nutty co workers, and hard labor.

Anyways, I've noticed things have really gone down on the customer service end of things here. Really going down.

Twice this week customers have threatened my life.

For doing my job.

For simple things...like making sure you pay for stuff before ya leave! Or simply trying to make your day a better one! I pride myself on being very good with customers, doing whatever it takes(or even how degrading it is), so I would like to think it is not me!

Anyways, is it just me, or are people just more angry and crazy as usual?

(I so need to get out of this field soon!

I work outside in the heat and cold. It's over 100f every day from july to september. I haven't been threatened lately but I have been called names since we are backed up 2 weeks with work. I'm already working from 6:30a to 5:30p and simply can't take in any more jobs. Plus I'm wore out by Wednesday.

Do you actually tell them to make sure they pay for their stuff before they leave? If someone said that to me I'd get a little upset too.

Edit: I work retail too, and have for some time now.

We are talking about the ones who are walking out the door with it....I may not be able to chase, but I will ask!

I'm pretty well trained in LP....

Or that that pawn shop down on 8 mile in Detroit. LOL

It's hysterical to see those hood rats have tirades and be thrown out of the store.

Yep...things were quiet for a while, but things have starting picking up here(finally), and a few interviews have popped up..

I'm thinking positive!

I've been threatened a few times during the course of my job. For doing my job. People are just nuts. Long since stopped trying to figure it out.

Agreed there....

I would say so.

My job requires me to deal with all sorts of people on a daily basis. Unfortunately, much of the time, there's no flexibility in what I can do to help them and being their only point of contact, I get a lot of $hite thrown at me. Initially, my temper would go out the roof and there has been an instance where I literally told someone to go F themselves because they took it way over the top. Now I'm pretty much immune to it and could care less.

Remember, the moon was 11% closer a couple weeks ago.

My work was crazy, but from management throwing spitballs at each other. Not the customers.

Obligatory comic relief:

"We're like, closed, or something."

I meet three or more folks a day in their homes for a living, it can be quite comical.

After a while you become immune to their shiite, just take a deep breath and move on.

The full moon is well documented and has a tremendous effect on many folks. My Wife served an internship in a mental hospital and the folks just came streaming in around the full moon.

3 days later they were back on the street with us!

i work in some zones were this is not handled by store employees anymore but by fully armed and bulletproof west equipped security contractors or off-duty cops.
think of what store employees had to handle for fully armed guards to be necessary....

My wife's best friend is an ER nurse. A few years ago, there was a full moon, on a Saturday night...on Halloween.

I used to have a cousin who worked in the ER in a large metropolitan hospital in a large city. She told me story after story about what would happen during the night shift of a full moon. I won't go into detail here, but one of the best ones involved a man and a cucumber and his story was that he liked gardening in the nude and he just happened to fall down....
Getting back on subject, in my life I've had a few jobs that involved customer service. No more and hopefully, never again.
