My Jeeps latest franken brew

I changed the oil in my 2.5 94 jeep today as the current fill had 3500 miles and 4 months.

I figured I would kill off alot of the old oils I had sitting around.

I added:
1 qt Supertech 10-30
1 quart chevron supreme 10-30
1/2 quart of SJ Mobil Clean 5000 10w30
1/2 quart of castrol GTX 10-30
and 1 quart of MMO to clean her up.

I plan on running this for 1500-2k miles.
on a supertech ST16, pulled a fram OCOD off of it will cut her open tommorow. The jeep has like 230k, just an observation but the jeep has no more lifter tick w/o the fram.

Does your Jeep spec 5w20?

He's probably not too much out of grade. He's going 25% vs. 20% that MMO recommends. I doubt it will have issues with it. Maybe some low idle lifter noise (not to be confused with a single noisy lifter). The engine can tolerate a broad span of viscosity.

The Fram should have only been responsible for start up rattle, not any continuing or lingering lifter noise.

The MMO has a flash point of 53 C so do check your oil level. You may end up needing to top off 1 quart of oil during your OCI if you burn off all your MMO.

nah, it was just start up lifter tick, bad.

Gone now, yeah the MMO does bring it out of grade but I doubt it will hurt her too much. It wont be in there long, I promise not to offroad it lol.

I will check the oil level frequently

Yes. That appears on the FAQ, however THE MAN himself states that it won't lower the viscosity (he really meant it would take out out of "grade") which is not the case with a 25% solution. You may manage it with a given oil that is at the peak of the visc range, but anything in the middle ..like 10.5 isn't going to stay above 9.25 at a 25% mix rate.

Again, I don't think he'll have any negative impact in spite of being out of grade.

The 2.5L and 4.0L Jeep engines can run on peanut oil, very well built engines that were practically indestructible. They are also very easy peasey on oil.


Good thought with the MMO, wish I still had my 4.0L so I could have seen the cleaning action if any on the internals as it had nasty brown crusty deposits(not sludge, but varnish on the darker side of brown). But then again it sat for many years, was neglected by my brother for 1/2 of its life, and was maintained by me the other half.

I wouldnt go over 500mi of easy driving on that MMO %. Actually, I would'nt leave the driveway! Would prefer for a cleanup: a CUP of mmo or "charcoal starter fluid and ATF blend" and some HARD running of the motor.

Ya those engines like thicker oil. You may even want to consider a 5w-40.

I do this all the time, for the exact same reason. Clean off the shelf, fresh oil in the cars.

Ah, the almighty MMO! It will turn your 2.5 94 jeep into a 2010 Corvette, cure cancer, and balance the Federal Deficit all at the same time! Seriously, the mix is fine, the MMO thinned it too much for your climate, IMHO.

well, my climate here is not like usual cali, mid day will be like 55 and mornings 30.

The Jeep was neglected by its PO quite a bit. I dont expect super results with MMO or anything just figured it was a good oportunity to clean it up a bit.

defektes, I wasn't aiming the MMO remark towards you, honest. It was in response to some who loudly proclaim its a miracle product...

Anyhow, I have mixed before to use up leftover oil, there is no problem, especially since you have 10w30's.

I do think you are a bit too thin with the MMO, but not enough to worry much. I would top off with a thicker oil, when the need arises.

I was thinking of going to 5-40 winter, and 10-40 summer instead of the usual 10-30 I use. I have used both before with good results.

If you want to use a syn I would definitely use a 5w40 like Rotella T6 or Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck. You can even try Mobil 1 0w40 year round or GC.
