welcome to the 10 year, 100k hyundai warranty. this isn't the first story I heard about if you want to maintain that 10 year warranty. You have to go to the stealer for all these services every 30k miles. 1100 bucks every 30k miles? seriously, you would pay 3300 bucks in 90k miles in driving for their factory maintenance.

It's not just Hyundai, it is any crooked dealer.
My local dealer is stellar in any warranty repairs needed. My 30k inspection was only a auto transmission fluid change (only done at the dealer so there would be no question as to what fluid was used) and that was it. The dealer does not have to be the one to do the inspection, nor does it have to be an "authorized" shop. I do my own and mark them in the book, and my dealer has no problem with it.

You are in no way required to have your car serviced by a dealer for the warranty to be effective. In fact, for most warranty repairs, dealers hardly ever ask for evidence of maintenance. To be on the safe side, do all the maintenance in the owners manual and keep the documentation. Again there is absolutely no need to have this maintenance done at the dealer.

It's almost as though the purchase price of the Hyundai is a loss-leader for dealer services.

That's with just about ANY car make, and any dealership. Ask any dealership how they'd be doing with just new car sales, and they'd tell you they'd be reduced to a non-profit organization. The new car sales is a necessary evil to get the car on the road, so they can make money in parts, service, and the body shop, if they have one.

True enough..

And, I realize TiresPlus, or any of the indepenants can take you to the cleaner's too. But there's a difference in that with Tires Plus, I take the car there and wait, and watch. They're VERY good about customer participation. The Hyundai Stealer takes the car in, it's like Jonah sliding down the gullet of the whale. It's gone until they spit it out on the other end of the garage. You have no idea what they're going to do with it until they call. There's no waiting on the car, they want it for a couple of days, so there's no taking you out to the garage to see what's what. So if they call and tell you this or that "needs" doing, you're at their mercy. That just rubs me the wrong way. Mostly because I see what these mutts do to girlfriends' cars and what they've tried to pull on Ma's Cadillac, the services performed unnecessarily and to great expense just because the owner is in no position to argue. Without abandoning the car to the Stealer and just going away for two days, TiresPlus is a good alternative if only because I'm there to see what it "needs". If it DOES need something, fine, but I wanna see.

The Stealers instill the distrust quite on their own, and besides, with all the suckers out there, they'll never miss me..

When I was a service advisor, I'd get my customers from the waiting room, escort them to the shop, and SHOW them the problem on their car, and explain what was going on, even if I was sure that they didn't know a thing about the mechanics of a car. I sold a lot of things that way, and they appreciated being able to visualize what they were buying, and why. I never understood why that was so hard for shops (dealership OR independent) to get. If someone on a regular income is about to drop $500 on something, they'd at least like you to put on a show, and maybe get educated in the process. Just walking to a waiting room and saying, "Ma'am, your front seal is leaking, and we need $500 to fix it" made a lot less sense than showing them the leak, and showing them all of the things that have to be removed to get to the leak. Think I had some loyal customers?

Wow I bad dealer indeed, our Hyundai one and VW are nothing but spot on.

I even got a good discount on the 60k timing belt service for the Accent.

I even replaced the fuel filter on my own and the service writer said it was great too but they don't bother until a problem arises or to rule it out in a trouble shooting endeavor.

Ya they can't deny you warrenty work, find another dealer or continue to give Tire's Plus your money.

It is a shame too because most people would see this and not buy the car brand based on that when really the parent company is not to blame, they just make the cars.

And that's exactly how the car maker wants you to think. But it would be naive to believe there isn't something in the franchise agreement that can punish thieving stealers.

gee, my hyundai dealer sends out a coupon book for all services a few times a year. 30k service is $120 on my accent? did it myself though. Your dealer is a ripoff

Welcome to the Achilles heel of Volkswagen and Hyundai, dealers.

VW dealerships definitely deserve their poor reputation -- but I've never heard of any so bold as to threaten voiding the warranty if unnecessary procedures are not performed.

It only took me one 20k-mile dealer service -- about $340 and I provided my own motor oil -- to persuade me that I should stay away from dealerships except for:
1) warranty repairs
2) emergency repairs

I kept receipts and good records during the warranty period, but I would probably try to do even better after my next new-car purchase. That's because, barring a warranty issue, my nest new car will never see the dealership again.

You have to remember that the dealer is an independent entity from the manufactuere itself. The Dealer can charge whatever he wants for his parts and services. -However- the manufacturer has his name on the line ( in future sales of its product) as well for the actions of that dealer. Ther is NO issue on the warrenty of the Hyundai that requires any kind of dealer-sponsered suggested maintenance. Only requirement is the items listed in the manual, and even that, is debateable in certain items. Don't blame Hyundai, blame the dealer that is trying to steal from you by purposely misinforming you, with the thought of you being like most American sheep, and paying out, no Q's asked. Unfortunately for them, you called out on them....
