My friend is a mechanic who lets me use his 3rd bay to change my oil when it's not tied up. I did a run of PU ending today at 4,000 miles. I used the Pure One 30001 and I drained the oil out. Right then I got an important cell phone call so my mechanic jumped under the truck and took the old filter down and drained it. When I got off the phone he asked me what oil I was running and if I'd added any extra cleaners to the oil. I told him I was running PU 5w30 and no, I hadn't added anything to the oil. He told me that the old filter was drained and to come over and feel how heavy it felt. Either something weird was going on or PU cleaned a lot of gunk out of my engine considering how much heavier than normal the weight of the old filter was.

Do you run marathons across the USA or was this a short "first run" with the Ultra? This oil cannot have been on the market long enough for so many to have already had need to change it.

I've noticed P1s are heavier anyways and plus, they hold a good amount of oil soaked into the filter. Besides, the adbv keeps more oil from draining out.

How many miles on the truck and did the oil look unusually dirty for a 4,000 oil change?
You just had to be the first one, didn't you? :)

my wife has just over 6K on her OCI with PU......Dental supply sales so she drives alot. Don't discount people that have jobs that require them to drive their own vehicle. We also took a trip to vegas and will be going to SD next weekend. After that trip I will be at the 8K I'm looking for to get a UOA.

+1 At least describe it if you don't want to bother with pictures.

121,000 on the truck and yes, the oil looked pretty dirty but no gunk in it. I re-filled with PU and installed a Bosch D3500 filter.Tis PO 30001 felt way heavier than the other used 30001s.

Combination of PP, Mobil 1, and YB.Mostly Mobil 1

I doubt there was really that much to clean It was probably full of oil from the ADBV.

Bingo. The media in PureOne filters is very thick and acts like a sponge. It holds a lot of oil and that accounts for the weight of a used one.

Yeah, x2. Purolator ADBV works as advertised. I left one upside down for a month and it was still full of oil when I cut it open.....made a huge mess. :)

Take an awl or a nail and knock a hole in the dome end of the filter. It'll release all of that oil, and it will drain out within a few hours.

Sounds like the filter was plugged up and wasn't allowing the the oil to filter itself and it was trapped in the inlet side.

And some people don't believe an ADBV actually actually works for more than an hour to keep a decent amount of oil in the media. No unicorn here ... just reality.

I recently cut open a Motorcraft FL820S that had been sitting thread end down in a coffee can for four months. I could tell by the weight that it still had a lot of oil in it so I was careful when I cut it open to have something to drain it into. That filter also has a silicone ADBV and it is made by Purolator.

Guys, if the filter is off the engine the ADBV is NOT going to hold oil in the filter. It will drain out of the big outlet hole in the middle of the base plate. Any oil remaining in the filter is being held there simply by the media.
