Um this might seem like a stupid question, but since i'm new, maybe it's a valid one
How do I tighten the hoses, if/when I do find the leak?

Just make them "pretty tight". Not as tight as you can, but "pretty tight". Hows that for technical?
4.5 hours? Wow. A new record.
As far as the oil filter wrench. I do my filters by hand. Sometimes I use a rag to enhance the grip.
Or, just use an Amsoil EAo filter. That will last a couple years.

If the hoses have traditional hose clamps, you just tighten the screw on the clamp a little bit.

I think I just found out my coolant leak problem *doh* right when someone's going to be coming over to check the car out (it's for sale):
It hasn't leaked since the initial leak, so i'm wondering what's actually wrong, but this appears to be the trouble spot. It's not leaking from any of the hoses and i started the car up and warmed it up completely and it hasn't leaked again. Should I have the radiator replaced? Sealed? any other options? Figures that someone called on it and wants to check it out tonight

I checked the cap and it doesn't seem to be a very good seal. I can take it off with ease and it doesn't want to pop tight like in my other car. I'm going to go up to pepboys and get a new cap and jack it up again and see how that goes. Thanks a ton for the tip!
Don't let that bother you, I've been changing oil for about 5 years regularly, but every time I change the oil on my car I usually take 2-3 hours.

I went out and bought a new cap for the car and i'm gonna put it up on the ramps again today and see if it leaks again -crosses fingers-

I have found that a piece of sandpaper is a great friend when dealing with oil filters.
When you spin on the new filter, put a piece of sandpaper over your hand, and tighten it up that way.
It will help you get a good grip to get a good hand tightening job.
Don't use a filter wrench to tighten a filter, thats only making your job harder the next time.
The next time, you can spin the oil filter off by hand with another piece of sandpaper.

I just tightened it as hard as I could by hand, seemed tight enough for me and it's holding on great. By the way, I changed the radiator cap on the altima and put it on the ramps and no more leaks! not even a drip! thanks a ton for that suggestion, tigrpal. This new one seemed to seal a lot better and I was actually able to tighten it.
If you are or becoming a serious D.I.Y, get some quality tools and accessories from griot's garage. Search the net and request their catalog. I bought so much stuff from them, from wash buckets,oil change tools,pans,drain plugs,etc,boar's hair car wash brush,brake fluid bleeders,shop towels,detailing brush,so many fluids,cleaners,and check out their FACOM line of tools,just awesome,might be over kill but FACOM calibrated torque wrench should be in every serious car enthusist's tool box. Oh yeah, check out their tool boxes and chests, awesome! I think I made them rich with all the money that I spend on them,hahaha.
