2026 Yamaha XSR700. I’m doing the break in. Manual says keep it 5000 rpm’s and below. Easy. Im chillin on it. It’s got torque. Twisted the throttle and she bites. But I ride all back roads. Cars are few and far between. But had one pull out in front of me. I was watching them and I was in no danger but reminded me how they somehow they don’t see us. The other incident was a big 4x4 Ram used both lanes going around some twisties . I’m just starting the curve so I was fine on being where I needed to be to avoid the *****ead. Then on the way home today in a shadow filled road I saw something at the last second in the dark areas in front on me. I gave a quick wiggle to try to avoid it. I clipped it. It didn’t upset the bike. But I hit it. I turned around to see what it was. A **** broke off side mirror off a Chevy truck. I had a 97 and it definitely was one of those years. Black plastic. Again a reminder. The shadows camouflage it. Thought I’d share. Love the bike. Love the torque.

Congrats on the new bike!! That is a solid motor for sure!! If you are doing a lot of backroads I highly recommend to practice your trail braking in the corners. It will allow you to make quick line changes while in the corner.
Cool bike, I really like that style. Yamaha calls it "sport heritage" and its a perfect blend of retro and naked sportbike styling. I came very close to getting an MT-09 a couple years back, what Yamaha calls a "hyper naked". Always rode hardcore sportbikes ever since I was in my teens, but grew tired of the riding position as I got older, and not being able to really explore the hyper sport characteristics on anything but a racetrack. Have NOT evolved into the cruiser life yet, still like to go fast occasionally and play on a good mountain road. This kind of bike pushes all the right buttons for me. Sounds like for you too. Be careful and have fun.
I'm so jealous. I haven't ridden in a year now. I definitely have reservations getting another bike. Drivers seem to get worse every single year. It's to the point now where it dampens the fun for me.
A couple years back i was nearly rear ended by a ford explorer. Broke the side view mirror off on my back and got so close to the frame it broke off a 2" long blinker.

My reservation in buying anything for the street has been exactly what you experienced.
Too many inattentive drivers who can easily miss seeing a small target like a bike.

Nice bike! New bike day never gets old!
After a few liter class bikes I decided to downsize. 15 FZ-07, 15 FJ-09, now 750 Nighthawk. Looks like it's not going to take. Going back up, probably a 14 CB1100 by next year. Just have to deal with the extra weight.
I already know I only like retro style now.

You are correct. I do everything to stay away from them. Nothing is absolute. This go around I’m being very selective on When I ride and Especially where I ride. Just to be able to enjoy what I love to do. Luckily I have hills to ride . A lot of country. I stay away from cities and no highways . Trying to up my odds.
That's good.
Around here, country roads have their own challenges, mainly deer. Need to avoid those times of day when they're more likely to cross the road.
