My experience with auto-rx

Shelby, if you had nothing in your filter you either had nothing to begin with or did something wrong!

The following are filters from 2 clean/rinse apps of arx. This stuff is no cure all and people seem to get seriously carried away sometimes over its ability. But it does work better than anything I've used in my current SAAB. My Saab's still got baked on crud in places but I have yet to break open a filter with as much gunk as these arx ones. What can you say?

Brian,
You can see I cut open the filter, it is stained dark but has no sludge peices in it. I'm not sure what part of my post or others makes you thing we are getting carried away with what ARX does. It is a cleaner and an effective one in my experience. The best part of my Autorx experience was the transmission. For whatever reason it completely fixed a sticking transmission. I have a feeling what ARX did was clean the clutches thus allowing them to release, but whatever it was it literally saved me 3 to 3.5k. I cannot help it that I had such good success with the stuff, I mean should I appoligise, lol..

As for your SAAB, I am sure by now you know there is a serious sludge problem with that particular make. I think if they sold as many cars as toyota, you would see even more information on that online. Did you get the SAAB sludge letter yet? In situations like that it may take many many applications, lets not call AutoRX ineffective because it can't cure serious manufactoring problems overnight. Anyhow, good luck with your car, I hope SAAB takes care of it.

It looks like your 01 SAAB 9-5 2.3t is the exact model that SAAB extends the warranty on due to a severe sludge problem. And I forgot, one of my ARX f'ups was that I changed the clean phase too early, I was getting worried because of how black the oil was getting and wanted to check the filter. I had to be sure but now I wont make that mistake again. I practically got C-holed from all the BITOGers on that one.

Turbo charged motors seem to be the culprit of sludging. It is no suprise due to the hot exhaust propelling the blower. I think it is safe to say that oil life expectancy is going to be less in a turbo charged unit, due to heat, let alone the blow by factor. I think any turbo charged unit is a prime candidate for ARX.

What engine is in that 1995 F Body? I ask because I once had a small block that was loseing oil and it baffled me as to where it was going. I finaly found the leak. THe seal for the distributor had gone bad and the oil was pumping right up the shaft flooding my HEI casting then draining out from between the cap and distributor body. It was running right down the back of the engine and spreading out quickly as it ran down the back of the block. This Chevy small block was in a Toyota 4Runner.

I wanted to add that with the milage on these particular vechiles it would not be unheard of if some parts needed replacement. I doubt that Auto-RX has anything to do with the problems. It would be like an 350lbs. obesse person going in to see his doctor and complaining that exercise makes them feel tired an out of breath. It is not the exercise that is makeing them feel out of breath and tired it is the obesity. The disease came before the symptoms and I suspect that is what is going on with the vechiles.

I can understand that people want the internals of their engine to be super clean and sludge free, but that may not be what's important in reality. If you run ARX through a motor, it cleans what needs to be cleaned for it to run well and to perform better like freeing the rings for example.

If ALL the sludge and crud doesn't get eradicated, but the engine runs great, compression is better, oil passages are flowing again, sensors are clean and able to do their jobs etc., then ARX made a huge improvement and will allow that engine to perform much better for the rest of it's service life. Other than disassembly and cleaning, what other method can do what ARX can do? Tell me, I'll gladly buy the product. I am not inclined to take the oil pan off and scrape it clean or take the valve covers off and scrape out the sludge or remove the heads and have them hot tanked, valves reground etc.

Pour a bottle in, change the oil 1500 miles later, I can do. ARX saves time, saves effort and saves money. If the engine runs great and it's reliable, then what's the problem?

Chemtool and Seafoam don't do what ARX can do slowly and gradually over 1500 miles without damage to the engine. This place has me convinced that I need to stay away from solvent cleaners like Chemtool and Seafoam in my oil. I've used both before. I would be very reluctant to do so now after reading this BB for a long time. I don't think my engine would blow up because of it, but I would rather get the results gently, without risking internal wear even if it's not major.

The only negative side effect I've found with ARX is that oil leaks do develop. I've added seal conditioners afterwards and it makes a big difference. Because of this, I'm convinced that ARX is strictly for the automobile enthusiast and not for the average consumer who might freak out from an oil leak. I've also noticed oil consumption in more than one vehicle I've treated with ARX. The oil level during treatment and during the rinse phase definitely needs to be monitored.

Given the oil leaks and the oil consumption, I'll still use ARX because of the noticeable improvement in the way the engines run. I'm looking at ARX benefits long term. If you have a car for only a year or 2 years then don't sweat it, why bother? If you keep vehicles for a long time and/or put lots of miles on them then ARX makes sense. The bottom line is that you don't need to clean every bit of sludge and crud out of an engine for it to run great and provide a long and reliable service life. It depends on how meticulous you are I guess.

I agree with "some" engines but my old Powerstroke diesel was clean as day one and oil tests were mint using a group 4/5. That was also with over 900 F on the turbo too.

Unless you are doing oil testing, you are going at it blind (not good).
