So, this is my 3 year old Black Lab/Border Collie mix boy named "Buddy". Very loyal, loves going for the mail and sleeping on my recliner. Also likes hopping into the warm dryer right after I take clothes out

I've never considered them a pet. They are our loyal companions and members of the family.

Me too. My dog is a family member, not a pet.
My cats are my roommates. No, they don't pay rent, but they take care of vermin, alert me when an insect gets in the house or when someone is approaching the door, and keep me warm on those rare cold winter evenings.

We have a black lab named Buddy. He sleeps on our bed. He is not a pet. He's our companion. And, he'll do just about anything for a bite of a shortbread cookie.
He is a rescue dog and he must have had a tough life as a puppy. He is terrified of water, like water from the hose or the river or lake. I don't know what happened but his terror is very real.

Buddy is a great name for a dog....especially for a dog like yours who looks like a "buddy" in the best sense of the word.
Thanks for sharing the photos. Our dog Maverick is also a family member. Can't imagine our house without him.
