I started the cleaning cycle at 95,400 on my 96 Cherokee, using Chevron 10W30(my usual) and a Napa Gold filter. At 96,900, I changed the filter, drained the oil and ARX, put in 6 quarts of Chevron and saddled back up.
During the cleaning phase, I noticed nothing. The oil came out somewhat darker than usual. During the rinse, the engine felt a bit smoother, and somewhat more responsive, although it's always felt like a beast. The oil came out very dark when drained, though it looked clean on the dipstick.
On Frank's advice I started a second cleaning phase, this time with a Purolator Premium Plus filter, the usual Chevron 10W30, and 2 quarts of Delo 400 15W40.
The engine feels even more responsive, but that may just be my imagination. But it does feel like it's begging to haul soem a$$ It also sounds quieter, maybe from the Delo?
When I go to the final rinse, I'm going back to Napa Gold filters, unless someone thinks maybe a PureOne would be good to catch more nasty stuff; and I guess the Chevron 10W30, or maybe Delo, or maybe a mix, I don't know.
Anyway, the engine does feel better, although I wasn't complaining before, and my gas mileage seems to be better: 20.5 where is was typically 19.
Any suggestions, thoughts, insults or whatever are welcome.
