Our luck with appliances continues to get worse as time goes on. Our GE refrigerator started acting up last week and isn't cooling properly. I have to drop it to the lowest possible temperature and turn on turbo. Cool for it to keep things cold. Bought it in 2019 with a 5-year warranty. Not fooling with trying to get it fixed. Grateful that it's still able to hold its own because the replacement we ordered won't be here till August 6th. It got as warm as 50° in the refrigerator part, the ice maker and freezer don't seem to be affected. I can hear a fan or some sort of motor going on and off, on and off repeatedly at times. I think this time the computer is the issue.
The Samsung 4-door it replaced only gave us 4 years, failed while still under warranty when covid was in full swing and couldn't find anybody to work on it because of the refrigerant. It didn't try to keep itself cool, it was running but the interior got to room temperature.
Going with another GE because I want another four-door, can't stand the bottom "drawer style" freezer on the current GE. It was a bad choice from the start, just wish I could get 10 to 12 years out of an appliance for a change.

Anything higher up the line had the flat panel in certain areas.
If it's still an option add a 3-5 year extended warranty. I added a 3 year warranty to my Whirlpool fridge through Lowes. So far no issues after a year. Apparently Lowes doesn't really mention it but if you don't use your warranty you get 50 percent of it back at the end.
We have a Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator w/ice maker, mfg. date 03/2006, which came with the house we bought in 2017, and it still works great. I clean the coils every 6 months. In 8 yrs, I have only had to replace the water filter housing (leaking) and the icemaker (died) - no other issues.
A Whirlpool washer & dryer set also came with the house, but the washer had the wash plate design, and after the original spline stripped-out, it seems the replacements - whether OEM or Amazon specials - would last 6 months, despite using more water and lighter loads. We ended up buying a Maytag set through maytag.com last year for $1,500 including delivery & haul-away. Note: The washer has already had its controller replaced, as it wouldn't fill the tub on certain wash cycles <!>.
You're on top of it. Dirty clogged coils is what shortens and is the early death of many refrigerators. If you're not aware several box stores sell a coil cleaning attachment that you hook up to your vacuum cleaner. It's worth a look.
Nope, they are all electronically controlled today. Only laundry appliance with a mechanical timer is a basic dryer today.
Lots of Ropers at HD. Whirlpool owns the name along with Amana.
Lowe's is definitely better at appliances than Home Depot overall. Selection, pricing, availability, delivery.
Ordered a new washer from Lowes after existing second Whirlpool failed again for the third time. Have replaced door lock and circuit board on previous repairs. Was a nice unit, washed well but after 8 years not putting any more money into it. Expectation is for 10 plus years so will see how it goes. After two Whirlpools thought I would try an LG as research would appear it's the most reliable washing machine brand. Washer was $728 plus required hose fill kit at an extra $36.48 to maintain warranty. Was advised warranty would be voided if I didn't buy the hose kit on install. Delivery/installation was $29 plus an extra $50 to remove the old Whirlpool. Not getting any younger so thought it's worth the extra $50 to get it up the basement stairs, versus hauling to the road for free collection. Total cost installed including everything - $889.35.
New washing machine will be delivered promptly tomorrow, so whole process with Lowes was very quick and easy, particularly with the laundry piling up. Only concern I have is that LG has a reputation for NOT having a good readily available source of spares, so taking a gamble. This unit has 5,000 plus reviews so a common model, anticipating LG has remedied the issue given the models popularity. Hoping this unit will stand the test of time. Others, please comment on spares issues regarding LG washers.

I've got a GE washer right now that I really like. On the proper settings, it will actually fill all the way to the top, depending upon how much laundry you put in it. Its drawback is it doesn't handle unbalanced loads very well. It has tried to escape the laundry room a couple of times, and the banging is violently loud. I thought modern washing machines dealt with this situation better. I'm waiting for the drum to fly out of its mounts someday, and it will promptly get replaced with a Speed Queen. I'm tired of all the electronics and I'm very tired of the locking lid.

I agree.. Their process is smooth and flows nicely. My delivery arrived at 7:25am and they were gone at 8:05am the day after purchase. Two nice delivery people who spoke fluent English and took care of my two special requests without pushback or sour facial expression. Overall a solid on-point experience.
I looked for a Roper washer a few months ago and discovered the brand was Obsolete .Lowes and HD Do Not have them.the Amana brand is the entry level brand,which i bought.
Pump motor is quite easy actually. You will get a better machine fixing it than buying a new one today unless you are going after the commercial ones (like those with a coin box).
