oh
my mom has a 08 mustang with a tremec trans, it has always given her trouble shifting when cold, so recently i changed her fluid(drained factory fill, mercon) to amsoil synchromesh (5w30). it didn't help her cold shifting problem, is there anyone that has come up with a solution , it seems everyone i have talked to has the same cold-shift grinding issues with these trans

If Ams didn't help not sure anything will. In times past M1 ATF helped for a smoother shift in Ford truck trannys than OEM for me.

well i think the speced mercon v factory fill is syn, or semi syn? i went with the amsoil because of the 5w30 spec, i know warm its heavier, but 5w cold is thinner than speced atf

5w30 at 10cst is not thinner than 7cst ATF. At -40c, MerconV has a brookfield requirement
If shift quality when cold is the utmost importance, then give the Amsoil ATF or ATD a try.

The other options are the RoyalPurple Synchromax, and any full synthetic MercV ATF equivalent like Mobil1, Redline, RP, Maxlife,......

I also wonder how well ATF+4 or Redline C+ would function in this application.

Give the Amsoil a bit more time to work into the metals and get the old stuff out of there.
But in general, if you go thicker [like you did], start up cold shifting can be stiffer.
[IMO, the Amsoilyou have in there is still way superior to the ATF.]

If a real problem remains:
Going to a full synthetic ATF is your next option.
Once again, the Amsoil version would be one of the best.

There is not much else that you can do lube-wise.
Of course, all adjustments of travel and freeplay must be right in the clutch, and having it bled is a good idea. Adjusting the linkage [if possible] and lubing any pivots/contact points always helps.

thanks for the help guys, i just talked to her about her car and she said its just hard to shift for the first few miles, no grinding, like hard to determine where the next gear is.

f.rom what she said it doesn't seem any different from ff, once warmed-up she says its perfect. i'll let it go for a while and see if anyhting changes.
she had an 05 that was wrecked, so she is comparing apples to apples. maybe ford changed transmissions between then and now. on her current car, transmission went out a few months ago, due to countershaft machined wrong, completely covered under warrenty, but i am not very impressed with this style of tremec so far

The synchromax should work well.

However, ALL TR3650's seem to have a cold grind from 1st to 2nd. That's just kind of how it is. You can try to lessen it but it will almost never completely go away. There was a very long thread on StangNet where a Tremec engineer came in and had some comments. He basically said to try lowering the fluid level. However, how much of this applies to the newer 3650's I'm not sure. They may have corrected the fill amount.

Have a read.

I have an '02 gt with a TR3650. I had the best luck by lowering the fill level from 4qts to 3.2qts. I'm also running Mobil1 ATF.

theyve only been using that trans since mid 01. i have way too many posts on that site lol.

I put B&M synthetic Trick Shift ATF in my T56 and it shifts great. It's the best fluid I've had in that tranny.

LOL, Same here.

I had a 2001 Mustang Bullitt w/3650 and it never grinded in any gear and my 07 Mustang GT w/3650 has never grinded in any gear. Just this morning with temp in the low 20's my trans shifted perfectly w/Synchromax.
