I just recently bought a '02 Mustang V6 for the Wife. It is still under warranty w/26K miles on it. We live in Michigan and it will be driven just about everyday to work (15 mi. one way). I was looking for recommendations for which oil to use ?

I just traded in my 02 V6 Mustang back in December. It takes 5w-20, and I think the drain intervals were 5000 normal, 3000 severe. I used Motorcraft 5w-20 Syn blend when changed at dealership (good oil and they use Motorcraft filters
), but then switched to Mobil 1 0w-20 and Mobil 1 filters when I did my own oil changes every 5K miles. Mobil 1 no longer makes 0w-20, but they make 5w-20 now I think.

I would use either Motorcraft 5w20 or Mobil 1 5w20 oil. I would use Motorcraft filters exclusively. They are top quality & also the best value in the oil filter market today, IMO.

Even though I am a huge Mobil 1 fan, I have to admit that I truly love MC filters. I use them on our Expedition exclusively. For the $$$, they just can't be beat.
If there were a MC filter designed for my VW I'd use it, but since there isn't, "Little Red" gets Mobil 1's-4-life

I really like Motorcraft blends in 5w20 and 5w30. I'm not sure which the 3.8 gets. Either way, I'd do a used oil analysis and a compression test before the warranty expires to check for any coolant leaks.
I hear you on that! I know there was a MC part number cross reference to my Grand Am, but I can't seem to actually find that filter in the store
..oh well. Don't really feel like ordering it either, as I've found some Delco Ultraguard Golds online and ordered 7 of em the other day
. Right now both vehicles have the Mobil 1 filters and Mobil 1 5w30, but I'm gonna switch the Grand Am over to GC in about a month or so, as well as switching the Explorer to Havoline 10w30 and MC filter and go shorter OCI's because of the wife's short trips and city driving.
