Music streaming device to connect to line in on amp/pre-amp?

Got this

Paul, Using the BluOS app – you can stream the Amazon music streams directly to the device. The BluOS app acts strictly as a remote to our products. Best,
Yup, that's how these devices operate. They establish their own streaming connection with the source. You just need your phone to tell them how to do it. Once streaming begins, you could turn off your phone if you wanted to, and the streaming will continue.

Some of them, like WiiM, also have PC apps, so you can use your laptop to control the streamer if you don't want to use your phone.

My old school Logitech Media Server can control various streamers using either a phone or a web browser on a computer - no additional apps required.

Reading the reviews of many of these devices does not give me comfort. Seems like overpriced junk, many peopled bricked, 3 months in. Little to no support. Eversolo, Bluesound.

I can't speak for those from personal experience. I am still rocking a 15-year-old Logitech Squeezebox Touch which does all the streaming I need it to do and has a physical remote. :) Sadly, my 20-year-old Squeezebox Classic bit the dust recently. So yeah, draw your own conclusions regarding my technological savviness. :)

Amir did in-depth reviews of both Bluesound Node as well as WiiM Ultra - both in the same price range. Alas, that is next level geekery. If you're in your 50s or 60s, you are unlikely to notice audible difference between them. The Ultra does have a phono stage, in case you needed to hook up a turntable, though, but that may already be covered by your receiver. He did not like the Bluesound app, but that was some years ago - I'm sure they've improved it since.

If I had $300 to spend, between these two, I'd probably go with the WiiM Ultra. I haven't heard of any support issues, not to say that they're perfect.

As for "overpriced" - well, you can get a basic WiiM Mini for under $100, and it will likely do everything you need it to do as well. But the Ultra does come with a physical remote, and does have a touch screen, although it's only 3.5" in diameter.
