Multivehicle fluids and Dexron III

Are MultiVehicle fluids better than normal or synthetic Dexron III ATFs?
Would one be better of in terms of shift quality and transmission life using thoe MultiVehicle fluids as opposed to Dexron III?
Wouldn't fluid that covers 'most' applications have to compromise somewhere? Are MultVehicle fluids more friction modified?
I was trying to decide wheter to use OS MultiVehicle ATF or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF but just don't know enough. I studied both spec sheets but still... I intend to use it in Altima transmission taht calls for MaticD but allows Dexron III

honestly, I think that for the most part, using OE-spec fluids is always the best idea. Unless you can verify and quantify a SMALL subset of differences between one spec vs another, and from good research, determine the differences arent necessarily important. Youre right, there is usually some tradeoff or exchange of one detail for another. Dex III is probably a tradeoff already, compared to MaticD.

As I understand it, most 'universal' fluids meet manufacturers specs on paper, but are seldomly tested except for the most broad specs. Sure, meeting on paper seems good, but I think without tests, its not particularly useful.

I have used Dexron III in my 93 Sentra the last 100,000 miles. I have Mobil 1 Dexron III in my Saturn. The Mobil 1 was a step up from what I have observed. I would not use a universal transmission fluid in these transmissions, since Dex III has worked so well.

I use the Mobil 1 synthetic DexronIII ATF in many Nissans. Its an excellent fluid.

The multivehicle fluids also work well.
I don't see them compromising anything anywhere. Making a fluid that exceeds most of the spec requirements shouldn't be too hard.

Either way, the Nissan has a drain plug.
Regardless of fluid chosen, you should practice regular drain/refills to maintain the quality of the shift, and preventive maintenance will help extend the life of the transmission.
