Not surprised at all. DW1 isn't magic. Its just a fluid with some additional additives to soften up shifts in Honda designed boxes that have to do some clutch gymnastics that would normally crunch and bang if it weren't for some added slip in the mix. About the only side effect you see of 'alternative' fluids is firmer shifts.

Honda oem atf is cheap, just take some time and search some online deals. There's a voa of it in comparison with some "DW1 compatible" fluids and the Honda oem has a completely different add pack.

When it comes to a transmission, I never deviate from oem spec.

Interesting - that particular fluid is officially licensed by Ford for Motorcraft LV applications suggesting it's a specific formulation to meet Mercon LV + Dexron VI. I use it in our Fusion currently too. I think I have a leftover bottle and now I'm curious if it lists all of those other applications.

That actually costs more than Maxlife, which is a name brand.
Huh ? What is a name brand nowadays ? This is MAG1 fluid. Is that not a name brand ? Granted, not as well-known as Valvoline, Castrol, etc.

Honda back spec'd all Z1 transmissions to DW1
They didn't really have a choice as they stopped producing Z1. There's little difference in Z1 and DW1 anyway beyond the base oil used and just like almost every ATF producer, I think every one of them says their synthetic ATF is backwards-compatible with their non-synthetic ATFs.
