MTD riding mower - B&S question

Got an old 1992 MTD mower powered by a 10 horse B&S IC engine. The starter gear finally gave up the ghost. Its an easy fix as it uses the roll pin to come apart. I am going to order a new gear up along with some other odds and ends. Question: Do these old starters have specific gears or are they all universal?

Up next is a new ignition switch and battery so I can stop jumping it directly on the starter. I was going to run it until it died but it was resilient and I gave its first oil change since I have owned it in 3 years.

Post up the engine numbers and we can help you get the right starter gear. They are plastic and very easy to change.

I tried to find the numbers but all stickers are gone and not sure where any stampings would be. It has a nice coating of oil and dust over most of it.

And it is a 12 horse, not that it is critical.

Usually stamped into the metal cover that covers the flywheel.
