MPG Testing and E10 Ethanol?

Does anybody know if there is a requirement for corporate fuel economy testing to use either E10 fuel or ethanol free gasoline? I'm curious if the government controls for this, as E10 versus E0 gas can give worse fuel economy. Since most of us are stuck with E10, the fuel economy testing should be with E10 so as not to distort the results between different model cars. Can't find any mention of the topic in the fed fuel economy web site, but did find the attached which looks like they indicate such when collecting test data http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/epadata/Readme.txt
 
Interesting to see what E20 and E30 did in comparison. Some models showed little difference.

My question is what is that higher Ethanol concentration doing to the insides of the engine?

I also think that the composition of the E10AK allowed the Bio-Diesel to act as a UCL.

Therefore, any E## blend should do better with a UCL. Well, time to stock up on MMO, Lucas, or whatever your flavor.

From bepperb's linked study: "An ACE member, who has been operating a non-flex fuel vehicle on E85 since its purchase, has promised to allow the organization to investigate that vehicle’s engine when it reaches 100,000 miles – possibly later this year."

I agree, it will be interesting to see what they find when they tear down this engine.
 
They only tested highway driving at steady speed.

I wonder if stop&go city driving would yield significantly different results.

And they include tax credits in figuring the costs. While that does figure the short term costs for the consumer, it does not figure the real costs.


An interesting part of this test is it clearly shows the Impala beat the Taurus by a significant margin, even with its larger engine.
