Would be ok but, VR1 syn would be better. Unless you already have the 4t on hand.

About that time to put in fresh oil for the season. I have a zero turn with a Kawasaki FS651V that I currently run KTech 10w-40 until my warranty is up. I inherited an older John Deere GX85 with a B&S. It has sat for many years. I am going to freshen it up to use and was curious what people thought would be a good oil to run. B&S states a synthetic 5w-30 is best (https://www.briggsandstratton.com/en-us/support/faqs/mower-oil-type-and-capacity). I was thinking a 10w-30 synthetic would be better in my area due to the high temps. I run mowers in the spring, summer, and fall. The ambient temp range during those seasons is from 40s to 115 heat index. I was looking at amsoil 4 cycle oil for the John Deere and will possibly put the zero turn on that once the warranty ends. Thoughts on just running AMSOIL Signature Series 5w30? Mobil 1? I don't mind having separate oils for different applications but also won't turn down being able to use same oils across different applications to save myself some money.

Amsoil small engine oil is 100% synthetic group iv base oil. Mobil 1 full synthetic is group iii base oil that they produce. Both have high shear temperatures close to 500 degrees.Amsoil higher in zinc. I have used both, Amsoil definitely noisier valve train but remains very stable. Amsoil 12-15 per qt. Mobil 1 extended performance high mileage 10w-30 $26 5 quarts at Walmart. High mileage formula only to get 10w-30. Still need to change 50hrs or annual.

A heat index of 115 is WAY too hot to run those poor machines. For their sake you need to keep them in the shade and drink cold beverages when it's that hot, lol.

Heat index only apply to humans. Air cooled engines reference actual temperature

heat index only apply to humans ability to sweat and stay safe. Air cooled engines are controlled by actual temperatures which may make you run a lower weight than the index number.

Whatever brand of 5w-30 I am into when the time comes. So, was Mobil1 for many years, then Pennzoil, now Valvoline.

Mobil 1 15W-50 for an air cooled engine at that heat level.

That was a heat index number not actual temperature.

All my mowers run mobil1 euro 5w40. They're all push mowers though

The pressure washer and riding mower get 20w-50 since they run so hot.

Engines I put 30wt in:
Push lawn mower
Small 35gpm pump
Inverter generator
Air compressor
Stump grinder
Wood chipper
Log splitter
Welder generator

40wt Engines
Fixed speed generators

Engines i put 20w-50 in because they run so hot.
Riding mower
Pressure washer
Dont have to worry about starting them below around 40f.

I usually run delvac 15w40 in my deere 316 with the onan engine.
currently has Motul 300v 5w40 estercore from the 2 liter tin.

I run 300v in my transmissions on my exmark. Fluid still looks new and I swear it knocked down the hydro whine at least 50%
