Used the following program from Microsoft to move email, programs, etc.,from a XP Machine to a new Vista Machine.

This software is already built into Windows Vista.
I used an external USB Hard Drive although you can use a USB Cable, network, etc.
Make sure that you install your software like Office, etc., on the new VISTA computer before doing this.

I have done this with a couple of computers one being an old XP system with usb 1 ports and it took a long time getting the information transfered to the external hard drive but once I restored in on the new VISTA system with USB 2, it did not take all that long.
One recommendation is that I recommend that you print out or export your email address book to a thumb drive, etc.
For you IT guys there is another program from Microsoft what does this on a larger scale.
