I've seen mice scale cinder block walls in the basement of my parents cabin. They are remarkable little critters.

doitmyself, that's one nasty looking mouse, I wouldn't be holding him.
Wild mice can really jump. At one time, I set up a live trap with an empty, deep trash can and some boards leading to the top. The idea being the (dumb) mouse would follow the food and fall into the trash can. (We used this trick to catch some escaped hamsters when I was a kid.) A little bit later I heard a ruckus where I set the trap. I came around the corner to see the mouse inside the trash can, springing to the top and just catching the edge. He got it on the second or third try, boosted himself over the edge and he was gone. The trash can was about 30" tall.
