Hi fellas, just grabbed a bottle of this very pricey oil for my sons new KTM 50 two stroker... came highly recommended to us by other KTM 50 dads.

Any experience with this oil? From what I see its a pure Ester base and is supposed to be a very stout 2T oil. These little water cooled 50's get ran very hard and a a relatively high RPM most their life. In the past we've used Castor based oils with no complaints other than gum in the carb and exhaust ports.

They only list API TC, so it is a little behind the times with no ISO or JASO specs.

Their SDS labels it as a Snowmobile 2-stroke engine lubricant. It is probably just an oversight by the SDS author, but it might be worth looking into.

I can't say I have experience with it though. I'm sure its fine, just a few criticisms I noticed when looking at it on paper.

Its decent oil.....I have tested it in my chainsaw...@2% runs ok....@3% fumes too much....it has high ignition point (210 C)...so it will clogg your muffler over time

I've experimented with both the 800 and 710 in our KTMs (200EXC and 250SX). 800 was a little too 'sploogy' for my taste. 710 burns totally clean for my use which is mostly single track woods riding. 710 is what I'm running now. What I've read, can't recall where, can't vouch for truthfulness either, is the 800 was designed for high rpm stuff and the 710 was designed for 'normal' use. That 50 is a screamer engine so you may not get the messy result we did. Haven't had a top end off since I switched to Motul so I can't say how it's working internally but I'm not expecting any surprises next time I open one up. I miss those days when we had little bikes in the garage. They were a lot of fun.

Yea after looking at the TDS sheets I don't particularly care for that very high flash point... I'd much rather have something lower being our bikes are water cooled and mostly trail ridden with some competition hare scramble events thrown in.
