This is the tail end of the bottle of a liter of Motul 300 Gear 75W90 oil has been in use in the Pathfinder for about 20K kms. A bit of dirt must have got in the bottle when changing the oil is the only way I can think that the 'insolubles' are that high and that there is a trace of water, might have to redo this one from a new bottle. I'm surprised at the additive metals difference between this one and a previously posted Motul 300 Gear 75W90 UOA.

Comparing the specs sheets between the Motul Gear 300 75w-90 and Motylgear 75w-90 your sample has a viscosity closer to Motylgear (cSt of 81 at 40 C) than it is to Gear 300 (cSt of 105 @ 40 C)

My VOA of Gear 300 in August 2006 did not have any Moly, the Phos was 1000 lower, boron was about 150 lower and magnesium was about 300 higher.

Thanks Shanneba, I noticed the difference as well, also the spec sheet for the Gear 300 that you posted is the old sheet; from the right lower corner it's from 1998. The newer spec sheet above from 2006 shows a lot lower -76F pour point and different viscosities. I'm not real pleased about the insolubles and water in this posted sample and as I picked up 3 new Gear 300 75W90 x 1 liter bottles about 2 weeks ago when I changed engine oil I'll crack a new one and get it VOA'ed to see what the add metal package is in those.

Maybe Motul is like the rest of the lube suppliers in that they change formulation as it suits them.

You never know about the French.

The code on the bottle I have left (of two I bought) is:
11908/N/73165. I have no idea what date that translates to. I bought them both in 2006.

I am switching to Redline 75w-90 NS.

That's an out of date TDS for Gear 300 that must be about ten years old.

Current specs are 72.2 cSt @ 40*C, 15.2 cSt @ 100*C, VI of 222.

BTW, silicon is used as an anti-foam.
