The only claimed difference I can find between motorcycle specific oil and HDEO is the motorcycle oil contains rust inhibitors and anti-foaming agents. I thought oil itself was a rust inhibitor. Is there any real value to these additives?
BillyTheKid said:I've read good things about the VR-1 oil. I think you'll be happy with it but I think it's high in moly and valvolines website says its not suitable for a shared sump bike.
I only drive my car when its raining in the sommer. My bikes get 20000kms spread between all 4.
I love to ride. I've taught my dog to ride on the rear seat of my Harley. He puts his paws on my shoulders and holds on with his dew claws.
Steve aka Sunruh said he had good results with that, and I trust his word and testing. My shared sump should not be an issue clutch wise since I have a multi-stage lockup, so could just add some more weight to it if it started to slip, however I doubt it will be an issue anyway. I just don't have the fun riding like I used to, it is more of a thing to do when I need to clear the mind. Plus the bike is not an everyday street bike set-up anymore, it can be ridden reliably in the street, but it gets pretty hot and probably cooks the oil a lot more than a normal set-up would. Years ago I used to ride so much I would ride at least into early Dec in NY, and sometimes bring it out even in the colder months, but now I don't ride if the temps are below 65F.
Back to topic at hand, I think the cycle specific oils are a way to squeeze more money from the buyer.
