I recently purchased a 2008 Ford Supercrew with a 5.4l engine. Of course the manual and the dealer recommend Motorcraft oil and filters which you would expect. I have only 6000 miles on the truck and have changed it twice with MC oil and filter. I have read on BITOG that MC syn blend is a good oil, but am concerned that it is so much cheaper at Wal-mart than many others. I have always used dino oil (GTX) on 3k intervals with my engines lasting 200k and beyond. This is the first Ford that I have had since a 1978 f-150 that I had in high school, and have absolutely no experience with MC oil. So much is made on these forums about synthetic oil but I have never used and have put a lot of miles on my vehicles. I now have a company vehicle and only drive the new one on the weekend so it will probably only see maybe 12k per year. I like to change my own oil and had planned to use the MC syn blend 5w-20 to eliminate any concerns that could arise with the warranty. How well will this oil perform if I keep this truck for 10 years? Is it inexpensive because of lower quality or some other reason? Would a full syn in this thinner oil be a better choice for long term wear or does it matter??????

Yeah, good stuff. I would have no hesitation to using it. Its cheaper because like Audi Junkie alluded to they dont drop money on TV ads or Painting their logo on NASCAR cars. :P

When I got a new 2005 Ford I wondered about the MC 5W20 but study convinced me it was a great blend, inexpensive at WM $12.50/5qt.

Aside from the UOA's it was the 200K mile police cruiser stories that convinced me about MC oil.

Same too with the FL-820S filter, really great feature set(media/ADBV/base-end bypass) all for $3.48 everyday.

You can probably use any 5W20 oil that passes Ford -930A spec, consult yr manual. Mine says dino is OK (5K OCI).

I have been using a lot for Val. SynPower (synth) because I could get it for $1/qt. I'm looking at using Pennzoil YB (conv.) as it meets the 930A spec and is likely a GrpII+. Worst case I go back to MC at $15.50/6 qt everyday price.

How could I not be happy ! You should be too !

Yea, I did 5-7+ cases/yr of GTX at 3K OCI for more than 10 years. Today's oils are vastly superior.

I think MC blended oil is one of the "sleeper" oils, if you will. It kind of flies under the radar a bit, and I think it's one of the best values in oil today.

Use it without hesitation to go to 5k OCIs

Motorcraft oil and filters are probably the best "bang for the buck" out there. I use both with full confidence.
