Hey,
I was discussing oil filters at another forum and was told Motorcraft filters were the best for my 1999 Dodge Caravan 3.3L
The advice was that they were least restrictive while still providing superior filtration.
Anyone here wanna confirm that?

I can indeed say that the Motorcraft filter is about 2 inches longer (taller?) than the OEM filter and that alone might be why it's "better" ?

Purolator boss best filter made !!!! Waiting 😔

K
do you recommend any filters in particular?
I was using WIX and was told they are not good for chrysler minivans with 3.3L or 3.8L

But I'm extremely gullible and believe everything people tell me.
Remember that bridge? Yep..I bought it.

I stopped using Motorcrafts after many reports showing the black potting glue coming loose and going through the engine - ended up in some people's oil drain pan when they did an oil change. Search YouTube for it, some videos showing it.

Right now everyone is jumping on the Vietnamese or Chinese built filters as they seem to be of better quality than filters made anywhere else.
Also include the new Mobil 1 filter that's made similar to all those other Asian sourced filters. Mobil 1 can be had a Wally World.

Purolator One or Boss, New Mobil 1 at WM, Purolator 20k at WM (coming soon), Microgard Selects at Oreilly's, Some STP's at Autozone, the list keeps going but the MC's have not been stellar on quality. I will say there are a few MC's that are stellar but the Chrystler app is not one of them.
Definitely least restrictive when they tear.
Boss or MC?

Which filter fits your van?
This is a fickle bunch around here, the FL400/500s still have good reps for lots of folks on here don't like the 820s anymore.

FWIW, I have 3 vehicles that use the 820S and have a combined 450K miles on those 3 engines, I still use the 820S filters.

The OEM filter for the 1999 Dodge Caravan 3.3 is PH16 size…
You can oversize to PH8a / Wix 51515 / FL1a if it fits…
Double oversize is Wix 51773 / Fl299…
