A few months ago I was in my local WM looking at the oil and filters. I had to do a double take look at the MC oil filters. For some reason, the boxes looked different. I opened an FL-400S and could see that the base end bypass was about a 1/4" deeper/longer inside of the filter. What company is now making MC oil filters? I wonder how Purolator took the news when MC decided to part ways?
I haven't used one yet on my 07 F150 (4.2 V6). I want to read what those of you that use the new MC oil filter, think about them.

i was gonna ask this question, just havent find time to go here, i note the new box design too at walmart, but i been seen these box look at dealer for very long time already.

I don't think omnicraft isn't a lower priced part, but parts for everything besides Ford. While Motorcraft is purely for Ford. Sounded like Ford wants to get in on the rebrand game.

That's my understanding as well.
As far as the op question, it's news to me if motorcraft has changed their manufacturer for filters

The Omnicraft line is for competitive make vehicles. They changed the boxes for regular Motorcraft starting last year. The parts themselves are the same, just new boxes.

Thanks bdcardinal, you're the one person that, on questions such as this, we can take you're reply to the bank. Working in parts at a dealer you know exactly what's going into the cars!

It's been awhile since my engine has had an FL-400S oil filter on it. I guess when I saw the new boxes my eyes wanted to see a new, updated MC oil filter.

A great parts person knows stuff !!! like BD.!!

We are in the stage of getting both the old and new packaging in our stock orders. I try to sell the older packaging parts first unless of course I get the rare BITOG'r customer.

bd, what filter company makes the factory installed oil filters? Are they rated for X amount of miles (such as 5K, or less) before the vehicle owner "must" do their 1st OCI? Too bad these filters are not for sale to the public.

Champ makes the original factory oil filters. Purolator makes the Motorcraft.
I wish Champ could sell OEM filters.
Maybe if enough people complain about the recent QC problems of Motorcraft oil filters, Ford might give Champ the contract for aftermarket Motorcraft.

Latest dissection anecdotes posted here show Wix now to be the FoMoCo factory filter supplier. And as noted, while box may have changed Puro still MC maker.

The factory one on my 14 Mustang was the dark grey Champ variety. I don't see the new cars when they get their oil changed so I couldn't tell you. Plus Ford is very protective over who their vendors are. I can tell when I send warranty parts back, but its hardly ever a filter.

Hardly ever? The more i keep reading, the more i want to yank the mc filter i just put on off and screw on a wix/napa gold...

That just tells you that the tears (while not good!) probably never cause noticeable damage. The only time a dealer is going to question a filter and cut it open is if they suspect a problem, and even then they would probably let Ford do it. They aren't like people on this forum that cut cut them open for the fun of it.

I've got a Motorcraft FL820S on the Freestyle right now that just clicked off 3,000 miles yesterday on the way home from dinner. Will be cutting it open this weekend and posting pics. Can't hardly wait to open it!

If it's torn I will lament on my life decisions.

I think this was the case on my 2018 F-150. When I did my first oil change a few weeks ago, I noticed the factory filter had the exact same canister design (same number of flats) and the base end plate had the same design/markings as the new Wix 57502 I installed. Main difference I could see was base end bypass on the factory filter vs the dome end bypass on the 57502.
