I used Motorcraft FL-910S and FL-500S and the equivalent NAPA Golds for years because of the base plate bypass. Golds no longer have it. I have followed BITOG threads on the Motorcraft glue issues and cut open a FL-910S from my daughter’s dealer change and it had loose glue on the outside of the filter element. I have six newer FL-910S and four newer FL-500S on the shelf that I decided not to use on our vehicles. My current plan was to use the FL-910S on my old mower for its annual changes and the FL-500S as shelf decoration (haha). Opened all the Motorcraft boxes and they still have the base plate bypass. So, if the glue on the outside of the element comes loose, I would think that any loose glue could not get flushed into the engine. They have open louvers and no glue inside the center tube.

What do you folks think, use them or toss them?

Sad what Mann Hummel has done to my favorite filters. Future purchases will be Carquest Premium in place of the FL-500S and Baldwin for the FL-910S.

I heard all that loose black glue is a trade secret. It actually repairs crankshaft and connecting rod bearings when that loose black glue moves throughout your engine. It fills in any microscopic wear in your bearings.

Interesting, I assumed it was to assist if the valve cover gaskets or rear main seal were leaking.

I know I will get downvoted for this, but I sell a ton of these and we have never had a failure. We have had the random one without threads (it was a thing for a while).

I was also using the Motorcraft Fl-500s on my Ford Edge. Last one started leaking from the gasket seal. Properly tightened, no double gasket. Vehicle gets only WIX or Bosch now.

your wix is the same filter in a different can.

I stopped buying Motorcraft filters for the Coyote because of the weak sealant and bad louver formation whack-a-mole. Carquest Premium or MicroGard Select is now being used.

Are you joking or serious.

I mentioned before I have a giant stash of FL-910s from the ownership of my last Ford. I kept all the filters post OC.
I just need to get motivated to take one for the team buy a filter cutter and have at it. 4+ years worth of the buggers.

My log cabin has been keeping me busy, and also hired Pro's are keeping me busy fixing a handfill of stuff they ruin or mess up while supposedly fixing what I hired them for!
