My mother has a 2010 ford focus that I need to change oil in this week. I think, if I remember correctly, it uses a motorcraft FL-910S. I have some FL-400S filters sitting around that I no longer have any v vehicles for and was wondering if they will work on her focus? The 400S looks like its just a longer version of the 910S.

The 400S sticks down really low when used on that engine. Treat your mother's car right and use the proper filter.

If you have no other use for the filters, swap 'em for the 910S at your FLAPS.

IT will fit.. it also will hit curbs parking stops etc.

It hangs down vertical off the front of the engine. IT would be the first to hit anything...

Thanks guys, I kinda suspected that. Was just trying to save her some money and use up three filters I have sitting around that will probably otherwise not get used. One is a motorcraft fl400s, the other two are the amsoil equivalents.

What I have heard of people doing would be going to walmart(that stocks motorcraft)

return it say you bought wrong one.. take the 4$ store credit.. purchase a fl-910

I saw walmart accepting a 5 year old rusted out gas grill back....

not saying I do any of that.. just things I've seen.

I echo the concerns; don't use the longer filter for that application. I have a similar situation on my 2010 Fusion; the FL400 would hang too low and be a target for a mishap.

Why not just take the filter you don't need for an exchange?; most places would give you full credit if they are still in good shape.

Meaning can I use the 910S instead of a 400S on my Escort if I want to?

What year Escort? I have a 1997 and the FL400s fits fine.

1995. And the reason I am asking is because it's tough to fit in the OE sized filters (I have not tried the newer OE sized filters that are 1/2 shorter though). Would make it easier to install and remove if it were shorter.

Yes, if you want to.

According to the Escort page on Wikipedia you have a different engine than I do. Mine has the filter on the back of the engine block pointing at the passenger seat. I install it from above, squeezing it between some wire bundles and hoses. If it weren't for all the wired, might even fit a FL1a on there. I used the new shorter Motorcraft FL400s and it fit nicely.

Where is your filter located.
