I was dismayed when I checked these out at wal-mart today. They had a nitrile(sp?) anti-drainback
and generally looked poor.

I am pretty sure the drainback is very important on
the focus. The M1 has a really nice silicone one.
Also even the frams and supertech's looked at least as good

Back when I had my ranger the motorcraft was alot nicer.. silicone etc.

Also the motorcraft has the un-preferred END plasement of the bypass valve. Where as the M1
has it on the threaded end.

To summarize.. Motorcraft fl-820S great deal
everything is good.
Motorcraft fl-910 (for my new focus) cheap and poorly designed.
I guess I'll probably end up with a pure one
then m1's after this change.

So you got the new Focus with a Mazda designed Duratec.
I'm not familiar with those.
You might want to hit the Mazda Forums and take a look at what they're using.
My Focus got an old Zetec that uses a Motorcraft fl-2005, a nicely build filter with an orange anti-drain valve for less than $4 at Walmart.
fl-400S's are also very good ones.

i think the 2005 actually fits on teh newer focus. however the newer filter is shorter. if you look where the filter is, you would see why they need a shorter filter. it hangs down in front of hte motor at a perfect left to break off if you go to far into a parking block.

exactly. and imagine this. some dealers were using
the old filter

I was just very disappointed that they did pretty much everything wrong on the fiter.

1)cap end bypass not threaded end
2)nitrile antidrainback not silicone
3)looks cheap and worse than supertech by far.

I guess I expected to much the fl-820s was 10cents more and did all those the right way.
