Motorcraft FL-820-S cut open

Cut open this FL-820-S from our work truck that was in use for about 1 year and 1,000 miles (it doesn't get used much- mainly inside our plant). Looks like the plastic end caps came apart.

FL-820-S is always a pig in poke. Add it to the pile of other junk coming out from Purolator.

Oh my….I advise everyone to stay away from Motorcraft filters. Failure after failure, we’ve seen the loose glue inside engines many times. Shame on M+H/Purolator…..complete embarrassment.

I’m speechless, how can quality be this horrible? I think I could make a better filter out of hot glue, printer paper, and an aluminum can.

It’s a trifecta. Horrible pleat spacing and waves, endcap popper and glue chunks all over. The 820 has been awful for a while but this is the worst I’ve ever seen.

I don’t see any tears so there’s that.

The only Motorcraft oil filters worth a dime are the cartridge filters. The FL-2062A are always perfect.

Pure ... I'm surprised the media didn't tear ... or maybe it did. How about a shot of the date code on the dome end of the can?

I gave up on Motorcraft long ago when the junk black potting material was reported many times to be coming off in service.

I don't know. We started doing our own maintenance on our plant vehicles since the fleet department changes oil based on mileage. Our plant truck (Ford F250 Super Duty) usually hauls stuff around inside our property since it has a lift gate and we use it to plow snow. We'll probably get a Mobil 1 filter next. I can't remember what we put on last month.

Use the new designed Mobil 1 filter with holes in the center tube instead of louvers. The one with louvers is the old Mann+Hummel built version and has it's own issues.
