Boss filter for the boss. LOL
This filter looks just fine for the run.
would’ve been another carquest premium but OOS at all stores nearby (oopsie) and didn’t feel like going to walmart for an endurance so it was either a FS10575, M1-212a or the boss.

It held up great looks like.

one thing i don’t like about these purolator based filters without a metal crimp is the pleats adjacent to the crimp. the spacing is very wide and they like to fold. i posted a torn 212a last week with the same odd spacing.

Wide pleat spacing is a big factor that can lead to media tearing at the ends of the pleat where it's glued to the end cap. The other factor is weak & brittle media - that combo is not good. Try bending one of those wide pleats over by hand and see if it starts tearing near the end cap.

Interesting!

Here's what I will do. I will cut one virgin, if it looks funky, I'll send the other one back. If appearance OK, will run.

big thing to look for is a wide pleat spacing, they like to tear. that and excess glue that breaks off. otherwise they’re good filters, i like the base end bypass valve.

I use the same filter. Cutting it apart, I have seen no issues. Maybe not the world's highest quality product like the Champion aviation filters, but from what I've seen on my samples is absolutely acceptable. I will continue to use it.

I do feel it could be hit and miss assembly dependent. If steel not degreased then bonding would fail for example

I agree….. a very good point for sure.
I certainly won’t be buying Motorcraft any time soon. The numbers and quality just don’t make sense.

Any sloppy excess black glue on the end caps? If so, can it be removed with a fingernail? Motorcrafts have been reported to shed that black glue, and even some have reported it was in the oil pan after an oil change which means it was sent through the engine. Potentially not a good thing for VVT screens, and other reasons.

No excess but I could see if excess there wouldn't be much to bond to. The glue certainly didn't seem all that well bonded to the steel, but well adhered to the media. The "glue" certainly didn't feel like epoxy. Not sure what type of adhesive it is. The epoxy used in other filters always seems like it's no-nonsense epoxy that flowed and then stuck.......stuck like glue to the metal.
