Motorcraft 5-30 or SuperTech Syn 5-30

The price between these 2 types are very much the same at Walmart (couple cents more for Super Tech).

Which one is better for the car??? Full Synthetic in supertech or semi-syn in Motorcraft ???

I'm trying the Super Tech Syn right now. I've only put 300 miles on it, but so far so good. The used oil analysis that I have looked up for this oil have been good. Not bad at all for 5 quarts @ $14.

I've used both more than once.

Lets just say I would rather use Motorcraft for 4.5K than Super Tech Syn for that or longer.

Wouldn't you rather use Ford's oil versus one that you only see as some store's house-name oil at places like Walmart, Sears and Meijer?

For 4-5 K OCI, I think both will perform the same. However if for longer OCI, perhaps Full Synthetic is better.

Neither are GR 4 or 5 synthetic. At last word Motorcraft was at least 60% Group 3 syn.

The base oil groups used are not the only basis for judging an oil. The additive package is just as important. Some how I suspect the Motorcraft 5w30 might have a better additive
package than the Walmart oil.

The Motorcraft is a ConocoPhillips Group II/III Blend with what appears to be better Additive Pkg (From what we can see in a cheap VOA).

The Supertech is all Group III Basestock with a what appears to be a cheaper additive package. It appears there are to versions; WPP (South and West) and XOM (North and East).

I suspect both use a Group I carrier for the Add Pkg. Would you care to produce some evidence that the Group III SuperTech uses a Group V Carrier?

I personally would use SuperTech in the 5 Qt Jug + a $1.00 Bottle SLOB (CD-2 Street Legal Oil Boost) from Big Lots.

Where I live in SoCal, SuperTech is coming in with a "G" molded on the bottle's bottoms instead of the familiar "WPP". I suspect WalMart is obtaining some product (both conventional and full synthetic) from SOPUS, now. If I wasn't loaded with nearly 20 gallons of TropArtic, I'd be tempted to run a fill of the "mystery" SuperTech Full Synthetic and have a used oil analysis performed to see how it does - and get some idea whether the additive pack differs from previous posted used oil analysis of SuperTech Full Synthetic from WPP.

Well...BITOG member 'mannix', a supposed industry insider, mentioned a few times that the 'new' SuperTech Syn uses an advanced additive package.

Given the used oil analysis I've seen, you probably could flip a coin. Neither looks to be built for premium synthetic extended type OCIs.

Thats Graham Packaging of York PA. No one knows exactly whats in those bottles. It may as stated be SOPUS. Possibly form the old Westland / SOC Plants.
