Just bought a 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 v8. Am I ok to use motor craft synthetic blend 5w30 in the engine even though it’s a ford brand?

I try to match the color of the plastic jug to the color of my car.

As long at it meets spec, oil is oil.

Awesome I’m just getting into doing maintenance. My last car had 2 oil changes in the 5 years I owned it lol I want this one to be better maintained.

Your Jeep has the 4.7 V8. Ford makes a 4.6 V8. You're just one digit off so it will work in your engine.
That sure was a close call. You shouldn't live on the edge like that.

NO don't do it !!!!

It will transform your engine into a "ecoboost" and lock up at 25K miles !!!!!!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!!

Dave

But I want it to be a eco boost my work van is a transit eco boost and it kicks butt.

Ya I wasn’t very good at keeping up with the oil. And it had a basic Fram oil filter to boot.

Change it every 3 years or 30,000 miles, whether it needs it or not.

Just kidding. Welcome, and good for you for having the wherewithal to want to keep up on maintenance and ask questions. People here are nice. If you have a question, ask it!

Oil changes are overrated.

I bet you can find other name brand 5w-30 oil at a better price than Motorcraft. Walmart sells Havoline jugs for less than $14, and Home Depot sells Formula Shell jugs for less than $14. And there's always Supertech. The Jeep is 16 years old. It won't know the difference if you save a few bucks.

Soon the Chinese will be making the Jeeps. Fiat is just waiting for a better price.

Yeah hilarious...

American branded cars made everywhere else but here... This country used to be the leader in the world of production. Now we are the leader of consumption. Which is not a good thing. Wonder why so many people in this country are not doing quite so good?? This is a big part of the reason why. This country needs to get back to what helped make our country strong in the 1940s.. Production here.
