Any of my Canadian (or American) friends out ther have an opinion on the Motomaster motor oils sold by Canadian Tire? I currently use the Motomaster Formula 1. I also know, through extensive research that Shell supplies all Motomaster motor oils for Canadian Tire. I received emails from both parties to confirm this. I have read different things about the Motomaster Formula 1, Motomaster 100% Synthetic (comes in a blend also). Have also heard that the Supreme is pretty good too. After all, they're brewed by Shell. What's everybody think?

From my readings here I belive this thread is on par with who makes Tech2000 Walmart oil. Consensus says it usually goes to the lowest bidder or sometimes depends on your geographic location. I have read / heard here that Motormaster oil at one time or another was Esso, and then Shell. You said you have responses from both parties confirming that but who is to say in a week, a month or a year from now the contract will change hands? And from history tells us they need not inform the consumer
Eiter way i know of one early 90's honda owner who uses the Formula 1 blend and is quite happy with its performance. I believe he does about 6000 to 7000 Km OCI with it

I tend to believe that it was formerly Esso (actually a division of Exxon Mobil) and is now Shell. Now the jugs are the same as Shell's jugs and they used to be the same as Esso's although the jugs and the oil are apples and oranges.
I've used all three dino grades (Nugold, Supreme, and Formula 1 in the silver jug) and was happy with all three, didn't even really see a difference between any of them. Anybody have any idea what specific differences there are between the three? Obviously additive types and quantites, but what specifically does this do to measurable properties such as pour and flash points, etc.
My room mate has always used Motomaster dino in his car (with relabeld Fram filters, sheesh I know) and he now has 360 000km on his '97 Camry and it still runs great!

The funny thing is that they have the API symbols on them but are not actually licensed.

Thanks for the replies. I am also happy with using the Motomaster motor oils, Formula 1 in particular. My wife's car (97 Lumina-58,000km) had the Formula 1 in the past, but the last oil change was the Motomaster Supreme, on sale for $7 (4.4L) Don't notice any difference. Both vehicles get 4000km oil & filter changes, or every 3-3.5 months, which ever comes first. Usually it is is the 3-3.5 month oil change that I do, especially for the Lumina as it is mainly the family "getting around" car, lots of city driving. My vehicle by the way is a 1999 Chevy Silverado Ext.(175,500km) with the 4.8L vortec. It gets quite a bit of highway driving. Runs great.
I just thought I would put my 2 cents in this thread to keep it from being Canadian only. Carry on.
