Motomaster Formula 0W30 Winter Syn Blend

Canadian Tire here has Motomaster Formula 1 0W30 Winter Syn. Blend on sale for $1.49 (reg. $4.99) per litre bottle (actually 946 ml). I noticed it was SJ rated on the back of the bottle(?) and the date of production was Nov. 2005. Worth buying? It hasn't been that cold here, but would it be a good idea to buy since it's such a good price and add to "the supply". The Motomaster oils in my opinion are very good (re-branded Shell) that I always use, but the SJ has peaked my curiousity. Vehicles are a 1999 4.8L Silverado - 185,000 km and a 3.1L 1997 Lumina - 70,000 km.

I was wondering when they were going to clear that stuff out. It doesn't look like they'll be carrying it again, since I haven't ever seen it in SL or SM versions. I'd buy it for that price.

If it's SJ rated, it's likely 3 years old. I wouldn't buy a huge quantity unless you knew you were going to use it up within a reasonable amount of time.

$1.49? I would buy any oil at that price without asking questions.

Will be stopping at CT tomorrow... if it's $1.49, they will be cleared out when I walk out the door. As long as your owner's manual says SJ is OK, I would advise you do the same.

Who knows if it's country wide or a regional clearance, but I thought it was a good deal and did pick up some to add to "the supply". SJ, SL, SM ... honestly, is there that much of a difference? I mean, if I bought the SJ last year (the date on bottle shows Nov. 2005) and put it in my vehicles at that time, what would be the difference compared to putting that same oil in now?

This isn't an old oil, its new oil that is just blended to SJ specs for heavy duty usage. Many on this site have opinioned that since Shell makes C-T oils, this oil is actually Rotella SB 0W-30:

If it isn't this oil, then it might be Petro Canada Duron XL Blend 0W-30:

Either way, both oils have almost the exact same specs - both thick, SJ-rated 30-weights, with high TBN's and good cold cranking numbers.....can't go wrong with either!
