I've got a 93 Geo Metro with the 3 cylinder and I'm looking for some oil recommendations. Right now, I'm running 3 quarts 10w40 Motomaster oil and 1 quart Pennzoil high mileage 5w30, with an oversized oil filter for a Ford V8. I notice in the mornings that my oil pressure light stays on for about a half second after the motor is running, and that concerns me because my motor is rather seasoned, let's say. It's got 258000 km's (approx. 160000 miles). I was thinking of switching to the Motomaster 0w30 oil, it's a synthetic blend according to the label on the bottle, and it's priced at 3.99 a quart. I plan on changing my Motomaster Formula 1 (it was on sale for $1.50!) oil filter to a Baldwin B2-HPG. Due to the motor's overall crappiness (burned exhaust valve I think) and low power output, I have to work it hard sometimes, winding out 3rd or 4th gear full throttle to 4000 rpm's at or so to keep up some speed on the hills around here. Will the 0w30 oil be a good choice, or is there a better oil out there for me?

Well, according to www.acklandsgrainger.com , a Canadian distributor for Baldwin filters, they have 2 filters that fit the Ford V8, and subsequently my Geo's motor. One is $3.45 and the other is $6.33. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two but I cam assume the more expensive filter would be better. $6.33 isn't a bad price, a good Quaker State filter is more than that at Canadian Tire.
I have to laugh at you northerners already talking about winter as it was just another average day here with a high of 94F.
I would email CT or Shell (manufacturer of CT oil) and find out what the dino/synth mix is. I run the Motomaster F1 Full Synthetic 10W30 in my 91 Honda CRX without any problems.
There seems to be a bit of a mystery about CT oils. People can't seem to get straight answers about their makeup.
As far as ordering Baldwins from Acklands - go for it. The filters are superior to anything CT sells and Acklands are good people to deal with.

You can't go wrong using the Green. It is designed for your conditions in the Great North Country...plus it has an added benefit: just pour a little in a glass jar, set it on a window sill with lots of sun exposure, and enjoy the warm green Elixerian glow all winter long...

-Any inexpensive, name brand, non-synthetic, "SL" 5w30 conventional lube. Borderline Pumping Temp (lowest practical use temp) of Pennzoil Conventional 5w30 is -35C/-31F for example.
-Standard Purolator, AC, STP, etc. filter -- oversized is fine if desired.
-Don't mix oil brands -- nothing will be accomplished...may probably hurt more than help.
-"oil pressure light stays on for about a half second..." This is of no significance. Experiment by changing filter brands if concerned.

Walmart also sells their Tech 2000 synthetic 0w30, I believe it's still selling for around $22 for a 4.4L jug.
