Greetings-
Shopping for a Euro version Motive brake bleeder but would like to expand its use to Japanese brands. Are there adapters that can be used for a more universal use?

i got a universalish one on amazon a bit ago that works well. The 20 dollar plastic manufacturer specific adapters for honda and gm products have also done me well. I have not had great luck with the universal one that uses a chain to clamp the master cylinder cap on though.

Yes, they make adapters for nearly all makes. I have a euro cap for my BMW (screws on) and a Ford/Asian cap for my Nissan (3 prong). The kit came with a flat plate universal cap but it's sort of cheezy. Get a quick disconnect when you order so you can remove your cap to add fluid without depressurizing the vessel. Look around on their site and get what you need when you place your order. They're not getting any cheaper.

I finally used mine yesterday, but it’s an off brand (Orion). I bought it for Nissans but they do sell other caps. The quality for what I paid seems like a good deal and it cut the time in half. If this was a purchase for my job I’d have spent more.

Surprised by the abundant bad reviews on Amazon for such a simple device. Just a plastic jug, a bottle cap, short piece of clear hose, and some fittings, etc LOL How hard can this be?

I thought that same thing. It pressurizes or it doesn't to the fault of the jug seal, hose, fittings or cap.

I use mine a decent amount and it works quite well. But is definitely subject to use error including losing the container mouth o-ring and not installing the MC cap right (or trying to force the wrong one on).

Overall, 9/10 rating. And WAY WAY better than trying to have my wife pump the brake pedal.

Order it direct from Motive if you can. They're based in Michigan and super great to deal with if you have issues with any of the fittings or seals. I had a leak and they overnighted me a new cap free of charge, no questions asked.

Good to know. Thanks.

I just used one for the first time yesterday and loved it. Used the Orion brand. Easily worth the money. Wish they had a cap for a Honda clutch reservoir so I could speed through that as well.

There is a brand SMOTIVEPRO on Amazon that has just about every cap out there for about $15 give or take. I can vouch for the Honda cap. If you use a Motive bleeder, you’ll need to use an adapter for the quick connect on these. If you use any of the alternative brands on Amazon, they will work plug and play.

I recommend lubricating the seals on the cap with some brake fluid before using them. Test pressurize the system before filling the bleeder with fluid or you’ll be sorry. I cover the cap in rags while I’m using it in case a seal blows.

The key to longevity is to buy a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, dump it in afterwards, flush all the lines and seals, soak the o rings, and let it evaporate dry before storage. I just direct the contaminated alcohol into my brake waste fluid container and drop it off at the recycler. The Orion setup comes with an extra set of seals for down the road.

My only wish is that they had a more compact version. I only use 1 quart of fluid for a full flush and that’s overestimating. Would not mind a half sized version taking up less shelf space for something I only plan to use every 3 years or so.

Thanks- very helpful. Do you mean the seal on the cap that screws into the master cylinder, or the cap seal on the jug pressure pump? Or both?

Master cylinder cap adapter. More for the Japanese style. Euro should be fine on its own. Because the Japanese caps aren’t threaded on, they seal by 2 o-rings that push against the sides of the neck of the master cylinder reservoir opening. They’re a little more finicky.

Thanks again. I looked at SMOTIVEPRO site but did not see separate adapters for different master cylinders (?)
